the swivel ball has a sleeve that goes into the axle tube. i cut and rotated the ones that went under my old hilux.

cut just on the inside of the weld ont he tube bout 4mm deep and then turn them, they r are tight enuf to stay true.

I have cut and flanged cruiser ones before, like RR front axles, and slotted the bolt holes, and used a dowell to secure it, once aligned correctly, and the faces can be machined, to ensure they are true, and you can hard chrome the outer balls, for better wiper seal action.

hard chroming can cause hydrogen inbrittlement and cause fatigue failure. Hard chroming would be great but check with someone in the know if their process will affect it.

the sleve inside the gq diff is not steel and is about 140mm long and holds the axle. I had one here last week and plasma cut it apart at the centre.

Drinking beer can cause alcaholism too, but with the right info, maybe not.......

Its obviously an easy proccess, or range rovers wouldnt of bothered for all those years, but i didnt feel the need to dumb it down that far, expecting anyone would seek the right advice on thier individual project.
