in between the other million and one jobs, and work, and overseas flights, i'm gonna have to put a new windscreen in. (came back from work to find two windscreen stars were joined by a crack)

the original rubber is i bit cruddy, and has been glued in with mastic by the looks of it. does anyone know if it should have mastic put in with the new rubber, or is it supposed to be the self draining type. there is a tiny bit of rust at the bottom of the windscreen surround, would the mastic have cause this by holding water inside the rubber next to the metal.

is the rubber seal a "H" section ? if so then put a small bead of mastic in the side that fits over the glass then fit it on the glass make sure that you push it all the way on With the screen laying outside down run a bead of mastic inthe groove that fits on to the body assuming that you have repaired your rusted section With the help of a mate get a length of cord (venition blind cord works well) it will need to be long enough to go all the way around the w/screenin in the groove that you have just put the mastic The ends of the cord must cross over at the bottom of the screen The mastic will hold it in place during this next step With the help of your mate lift the screen up over the bonnet and locate the bottom in place make sure that the end of the cord goes inside (sticky tape them to the glass ) Now gently push the screen back keeping the bottom in place get your mate to maintain the pressure on the glass while you go inside the car and gently start to pull the both ends of the cord back This will draw the rubber over the metal lip As this can get messy mask up the dash with paper Petrol will clean up the mastic also you may have to get more mastic in on the body side (outside) Now that you know how its done might i suggest O'brians Glass they are in the phone book

having done the cord trick with the rear window, that was an ok job. but with the mastic it sounds like a prick of a job. i think you're right, it's prolly worth the money to let a pro deal with the mess and hassle
