G'day, Just wanting to know what the minimum size winch you would put on an 80 series Cruiser wagon?
Would a 5000lb do the job??
Thanks

I would think 9000lb would be a minimum considering 5000lb is only 2.2 Tonne (about what a stock 80 series weighs). You would kill it on anything more than a very light recovery.
I asked the same question here:

5,000lb winch is designed for small rigs like zooks etc, and are used sometimes on light buggies.
Hope this helps

have seen some guys running a 8000 high mount, but most use a 10000lb.

Bigger the better but if $$$$ are tight at least an 8000lb no smaller and use a pulley to double up when winching.

I've got a 9000lb on mine. Definately do not go smaller, it just won't do the job. If anything, and you have the coin, go a highmount.

Any winch is better than no winch and with a 5000lb warn and snatch block it would pull out but would take a while. A 9000lb low mount or 8000lb himount would be the minimum. If buying new buy the big as bigger is always better.

I had a 9000lb low mount, while it done the job well i definitly would not go any smaller. I've now gone with a high mount, you can't beat them.

whats the difference between himount and low mount winches. Is there something dramatically different in the gearing or what?
