Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi all,

This is a question for those of you who have moded your front shock towers....as in chopped and raised them. What shock lengths (extened and compressed) are you runnning with the mods done. Was it worth doing the mod?

Im running a 80series XGS front shocks in my shorty which worked out to be plenty long. It says on the book its only 615 long but it worked out to bout 650 long. i raised the shock towers about 45mm. I forget the compressed but if i jumped hard it would bottom out so i am going to extend the bump stops. Its pretty easy to do, i used high tensile aluminium and run a 12mm hole right through the middle using a lathe.

Is it worth doing??? Ive got mixed opinions but the articulation has improved, but to get the full benefits of the long shocks a set of 3rds arms are needed or maybe a five link, but im not doing competition so its not at the top of my list. Im also thinking using rubber bushes will help cause i have those poly castor correction bushes. Ill see if i can get a photo of it mixed up.

I have been told you can buy a kit from ARB to raise the towers does anyone know if thats right and has anyone used their kit?

I don't know about ARB, But Procomp in Narre Warren do it.

yes ARB do sell them but only some stores i bought mine from southern in dandenong it was $70 works good

i'm confused by this thread... i thought raising the shock towers would limit downward travel for any given shock. As suspension travel and, i assume thus articulation, is dependent on the travel of your shock, wouldn't raising the shock towers thus reduce articulation? This thread appears to say otherwise. Can someone please explain to my why my train of thought is wrong? I thought to increase articulation one would need to increase suspension travel through longer shocks. And, if you didn't have longer shocks then the way to increase the travel would be shorten the shock towers.

The idea of raising the tower is so that you can fit in longer shocks, and if done correctly, not have them bottom out.
