Have the carbie GQ's got a rev limiter???

I have 2 mates both with 4.2 petrol carb's.. and they both seem to limit at about 6k revs...

another has one with the 3lt and thats about the same.. so it seems to me they mustt have some sort of limiter...

But some bloke is tryin to tell me they dont.. they are valve bouncing..... the 3lt shouldnt valve bounce at 6k :? and i wouldnt of thought the 4.2 would either......

my tb42 carby has a rev limiter

It's built into the dizzy, it kicks in around 5400rpm

If you have a look at the rotor button, at the back there is a small piece of metal sticking down. You will also notice on the dust cap has metal tracks going around it.
When the RPMs hits 5400RPM centrafuge force pushes this metal down and contacts the metal tracks, this causes the spark to short out and prevents any spark getting to Cylinders 2 and 5 i believe, or it prevernts spark from getting to all cylinders but 2 or 5. Either way when this happens, the revs drop down, preventing speed over 5400RPM. Some people have removed this in our club to push the power up even further, but really, if you have to go over 5400RPM, you need to get a bigger engine, i really don't like pushing mine past 4000RPM, red line is there for a reason.

smart man mygq my tb42 carby is screaming at anything over 4200 rpm i think people need to realise these motors are not about revs they are about torque. I can not see any tb42 lasting long if it is revved that hard. If you wanna give a motor that much stick then leave the poor tb42 fork lift motor alone and by a v8 or turbo your tb42 then you wont need to rev it that hard

Yea ive had mine on about 5000 - 5500 sometimes in nasty sand / mud.

I think, as long as the engine is pretty tight they dont seem to mind. Ive got some basic bolt on mods, and im constantly surpirsed how willing , and quick my ol TB42 is to Rev.

Btw, i had to ditch my rev limiter because i installed a fat coil and under load at low revs (sub 1500) it would arc across to the rev limiter and cause a miss fire. Cut the little points out with a dremel and its has run smooth as ever since.
