Vitara 94 Fuel Efficeiency Query

hi all, have a query regarding my fuel consumption.
Ive got a 94 EFI 4 spd Automatic, seems to be going thru the gas. i seem to be gettign about 290-300 km per tank. I think the tank is 50 litrs. Does that sound right, or could i have some issue, as my friends manual 94 vit seems to get at least another 50-80 kms on top of what i get.
Any ideas, have been advised that it could be injectors, but not sure.
Thanks
PS. Does anyone know a trustworthy Suzuki mechanic in Chatswood/willoughby area. thanks

First up, a few questions.
What size tyres are you running?
What size tyres is your mate running?
Do you both have similar driving styles? i.e. Who has the heavier right foot?
What sort of driving are we talking about here? Stop-start commuting, highway, offroad?

Is it a lwb or swb? The tank size varies and from what you're saying it sounds like you have a lwb. Now, how many litres are you putting in when you fill up for how many km's travelled?

Its LWB, same as my friends, he actually has a heavier foot than me, running std size tyres.Im pretty sure he has std, if not bigger tyres than me.
When filling up , its about 45-50 litres or so that i put in, as i never let it run till completely empty.
Both in town, and off road mine seems to drink much more, I do 15 min trips from Chatswood to St leanords every day, though i noticed when we took the cars to lithgow, on the open highway mine still drunk much more, for example, by the time we got to were we were going to, mine had aproxx 1/2 to 3/4 of a tank, where his had between 3/4 to Full tank.
Also mine was gutless up the hills,(i know there not ferraris or nothing) but i had trouble keeping up with him up the hills.
Thanks in advance for help guys, muchly appreciated.

You definately have a problem. My lwb auto did better than that on 31's.

I had a Vitara (early carby model) that was doing around 220km to a tank if I was real lucky. Granted, I wasn't particularly nice to it, but I never really hammered it, especially cold or anything.
I found that I had a small leak in the fuel filter, so I replaced it. Havng done this, I still found that it was leaking (imagine my delight!), so, I replaced the small sections of fuel line that attach to the fuel filter at each end.
This stopped the leak, and the car then did well over 300km (around 330-340) around town.

Adam

I have a LWB with 30's, getting 350 to just under 400 on a tank. the tank is 45 litres. if i'm FULLY loaded with camping gear 300 is more likely and gutless.
Check your cooling system hasn't gunged up your temp sensor holding your car in warmup. clean your fuel system and injectors. A proper mechanic should be able to identify these things. I find my car pings quite badly if given the boot on regular fuel. a couple of tanks of injector clean usually fix it for a while.
you should expect a little less with an auto.

Normally a lwb 1.6 is 55 litres and the swb is 42 litres.
My auto 31's with the extra weight of winch and winch bar, Optima battery, cargo barrier and shelf plus all my recovery gear was giving me pretty consistantly 12l/100km with a mix of around town and freeway driving and I didn't baby it. Even the roof racks never made much of a difference.
