Hey all I am wondering how tall is too tall for a hilux. One i am looking at is running 33's but look like is well and truely tall enough to run 35's. I usually play around in mountain country which is mostly hills and rocks with the odd bit of mud thrown in. I am planning to keep my dished rims off my land cruiser to help with a bit more with width but was just after some opinions from you guys.

it all depends on your setup and what flex you have, what terrain you drive. i had a lux with bout 6 inch all up lift and to me when it was still stiffish it felt way too high. they could definately do with some widening to go with the height. IFS diff etc. cheers

Anything over 2' is TOO tall
Its that simple
I and someothers run 37s with 2' mount lift
i run 34's with No lift for a couple of years too
Its very easy

Is that 2' (2 foot) or 2" (2 inch)?

Yeah but we saw scottys blue heap getting hung up all weekend at TuffTruck 05, the Question is will he learn for 06!!!

the height question would be relative to your flex, and go buy some wheel spacers...

That would be high enough to run 38's.

I have 3" over all (2"body, 1" susp) and 33s

7 1/2" is huge to fit 33s although I wouldnt go bigger than 33 on IFS anyway.

Will be fitting 36s when I fit my solid front end with hopfully about 4" lift (2" body, 2" susp).

My LN130 ran 33x12.5" without any bodylift or suspension but when articulated right up it did hit inside the guards at the front. Since the body lift and the suspension lift shes sweet now going higher though no quite enough ground clearence still getting hung up where this thing goes.

I had mine up to 8" lift at one stage, way unstable, and less effective have ripped most of that out and am replacing with wider diffs, My lux worked best when it had no body lift 2" extended shackles, it ran 33's no probs, and was still a good DD, now it's a peice of crap to drive.

my 97 extra cab has 2" body and approx 6" susp with 35's and i have been happy with its handling. i did the solid axle swap 8 months ago and only returned it to ifs width about 2 months ago with only marginal if any handling improvement. My missus drives this vehicle as a daily driver and has no probs with it at all, but in the end its all how you drive it.

I own a 90 model single cab with 2" leaves 2" body with the front axle moved forward about 1 1/2" forward running 35" mtrs, works awesome. any more height and it would have been smashed ages ago :)

my last lux had 2"b/l,2" suspension and 33x10.5s muddies.not enough width for the height in my opinion. my new lux has only a 2" b/l so far and i would prefer to keep it this way. But everyone knows it wont. if you want to go high you have to try match it as much as possible in width.

lift

ive got 1991 model xtra cab just did 4" ifs kit on the weekend and its Shweeeet drop shackles on the rear, 35" wranglers , currently 4" body lift dropping back down to 2" now that ifs kit is in. 2002 ute shell with guards cut out and tyres fit right up in there.
To me it works
