Fitting a Gti engine into a sierra engine bay

Gday,
On my Gti conversion adventures I have encountered another problem. The distibutor of a gti swift engine sticks straight out, so I have been looking for a dizzy and rotor cap which is flat enough to fit into the bay. However, the sugested mazda 323 GTX 1989 model was not released in Aust. And is extremely difficult to find. Already I have been inquired at 6 different places, only to find nothing. I am aware of the suzisort angle drive kit, but $400 exceeds my budget a bit. If I could avoid this kit, and find a rotor and dizzy cap to fit, would be great!. Does anyone have any experience of what other make/model dizzy caps and rotors would suit this conversion?.
Another thing is the thermostat housing jutts out on the gti engine. It was suggested to get a mitsubishi sigma housing, but on bringing it home, the bolts did not line up on the housing to the thermostat enclosure. Is there a way around this.
I am also trying to avoid a boxed fire wall if all possible.
Thanks, and any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
Cheers

Is the gti twin cam, single or a G13 block?
Excuse my ignorance.
If it is a single cam G!#, do what I did, swap over the cam from a Sierra, or some early Barina/swifts, then use Sierra Dizzy.
Mine is not GTI, but was an import Swift/Barina engine.

OK, bummer.
Have you got enough room to mount the engine further forward, and use a thermo fan instead of the normal one?
Being mindful of sump clearances.
I'm told you may need to do a little grinding on the oil pick up, to be able to use Sierra sump and oil pick up, but have not seen this done....there will be much info on this swap, try searching through old posts.

hey mate, check out this site, it tells u nearly everything that u need to know, also if u dont want to buy a suzi sport angle drive kit and cant find a short dizzy cap, u can also cut a box section in the firewall and then plate it up as a box.

are u going n/a or forced induction?

What are the details of the zook that the motor is going into?

Details of the zook the engine is going into...
1986 zook, NT, SJ50... High hard top, A/C
Just a question about cutting into the firewall... does the heater core get in the way. I like my heating, is there a way to cut into the firewall and avoid shifting or completely moving the heater core?
Thanks for your help guys, you are all helping me on my merry way to getting this thing up and running...
PS: 1.3 litre cino thermostat housing will fit will it ? Any particular year model?
Thanks again

hey
i have not long finished my gti conversion into my holden drover and had many questions as you do. we went for the option of cutting into the firewall. we did remove the heater but replaced it will a smaller heater out of another car. sorry i can't tell you what the heater was out of, it came from a garage sale but was the size we were after.
what model gti motor is it? mine's a 92-94 model and as i have found out, there are a lot of differences between year models, especially when it comes to the wiring.
it all seems like a lot of trouble when attempting the conversion but the end results are worth it

The area that needs to be cut is directly in front of the blower motor. there is a stud on the firewall in the area. If you push on the firewall in this area you can ususally feel the firewall flex into this. Obviously, if you put enough time in you could do all sorts of things to move this and that but trying to hook up stuff like the AC etc will get pretty hard.
I don't think it is possible to cut the firewall in this area an keep your fan.
I would be surprised if you could really get enough clearance with a short cap- although it might be possible if you brought the motor forward a bit, although then you loose the whole bolt in coolness of the GTI motor.
Personally, I reckon that when you go through the options, $400 seems pretty reasonable.
Steve.

Gday,
I was told by suzisport that my model gti motor (1989) would not be suitable for the suzisport angle drive kit...
So I am reduced to finding a tighter dizzy cap, or cutting into the firewall....
Does anyone know of a dizzy from another car which could be altered to suit this squeeze in the engine bay?
Thanks for your replies felllas

Last one. I just remenbered that the pump was mounted externally near the tank (not too sure of type) and the jackshaft needed work on it.

Yes it's a stock 5sp as far as I know. Engine, computer, air box was $1800 from "Suzifour" in Sydney.
