Hi,
Just wondering whether LSD came standard in the later model (coily) sierras. A friend of mine own a Trax model and he says his has a rear LSD Diff, but im left bemused.

Because,
1) I was being an idiot the other day on an slippery surface, In 2H, and my diff was behaving more like an open diff (i.e. One wheel spin)

2) When engaged in 4L, the diff performs like an LSD, (i.e. when bogged, both rear wheels bog down).

WTF? Is my diff fu**ed, or did coilys come with LSD standard, or was it only available in Trax models.

Cheers
Jayden

There was an optional LSD available for the Coil sierras. It was over a grand I believe so it wasn't very popular. I would be surprised if you had one.

99% of LSD's, especially japanese ones with any sort of k's on them, will behave like an open diff if you give them the berries on road. They are pretty loose

Off road, if both tyres have the same traction, they will turn at the same speed, even with an open diff. this is most obvious on slick mud but the same is true for nearly any surface. On slippery mud it is not unusual to see an open diffed car spin all four tyres at the same speed.

To check for an LSD, jack the car up so both back wheels are in the air and with the handbrake off but the car in gear, turn one wheel by hand. If the other wheel turns in the other direction with no drag , binding or clunking, you have an open diff.

Steve.
