Having got rid of my LWB MQ sd33 4spd to scrape some money together for my first house im now starting to have severe withdrawls from not having a 4by. I considered saving up as much as i could and getting a newer car but after all the problems my mates seem to be having i figured why not get some thing i already know.....MQ's.

I thought this time though i would go for a turbo cause i have always wanted one....5spd.....P/steer/.....Aircon where is the downside

So all the basic questions i already know and my next car will be copping the works but i have a few sd33t specific questions that i need some answers for.

1. I got 7 to 8 kms per litre out of my 4spd straight diesel, should i get the same out of a turbo??? Or better

2. They are 12v ar'nt they???

3. These cars are getting on now, does anyone see any major problems with a car thats done around the 300k mark. I need to get around 2 to 3 yrs out of it before i end up living my dream and installing an injected v8.

Cheers for the help guys and i promise no questions regarding bodylifts or suspensions lifts will be asked :D

1.Or did you mean 7-8 litres/100 km?
My SD33 takes about 14 litres for 100 km....I´ve got one big HOLSET for solving the power problem, gotta modified a manifold first...

2.Dunno...I thought theyre all 24V...

3.Fifth gear is the weakest link,I´ve heard...

My SD33T has over 360,000 kays and still doesnt use a drop of oil between changes. And its 12Volt. I cant fault it really.

SD33T are 12 volt in the MK series....

fuel economy im not too sure about

with regards to the kms.... 300,000kms is ok, over 400 i would be concerned.... but 300 is ok ;)

My old SD33T use to do about 14.5 - 15lt per hundred pushing 35 Mtrs....

Only real issue in these is rust.......

Make sure engine is in good nick as they can $$$$ to replace of fix....

Mine had 300,000kays and apart from a little smoke on start up went real well even pushing the 35...

For some reason over here there seems to be waaaaaaay more SWB turbo diesels than LWB so for the reason that i want a good body im gonna go for a SWB. Still seems to be enough room. Most of the SWB T/D's seem to be going for around the 5 to 6 k, does that seem reasonable compared to what they are going for over where you guys are??

Also i imagine a SWB would get better economy that a LWB?? Or is that a bad assumption. Also Jtraf that info was good cause i eventually wanna run 35's

Cheers for the info guys

over here you can pick them up on decent nick for about 3-4 grand if you hunt for them.... sometimes cheaper...... might pay just to keep an eye on ebay and such places where you can see pics of the car, might be cheaper to buy one here and get it across to ya then get one over there.

I picked mine up for $1800 about 6 months ago. Touch wood, no problems at all with it. 350000kms on the clock and never misses a beat. Not much rust on it.

Cant tell ya how much fuel she uses as the fuel gauge is broke, and as its a second car I onnly fill it when i use it. But on the long hawl trips to sydney from newie etc it uses SFA.

Mines 12v.

Cheers,

hey shark,
i have a swb sd33t, i get bout 10l/100km. mine has 250000 on the clock, still goes hard, the 5 speed is good for long trips :) my mate had a straight 4 speed an it chewed the juice compared to mine on trips, he loved driving mine over his so yeh. i bought mine a yr ago off an original owner for 5500, still pretty stock but in schmick condition. their are lots over here in perth you just have to look around for ages and wait for a gem.

good luck

I've got an SD33T ute, and an SD33T wagon. The ute uses quite a bit of fuel, as its had the pump screwed up a bit, but the wagon used 14L/100km on the two sydney trips i did, with four people, all clothes, food etc, towing a tandem trailer with about 500kg of gear in it.

I've never heard of, or had any transmission problems.

Both are 12V too. The only thing i'd worry about is rust, and to maybe get a diesel mechanic to make sure the motor is okay, as they are incredibly expensive to repair.

You might want to talk to PatrolDude (aka: East Coast MQ/MK Wreckers). He's pretty handy for chasing up cars and parts cheap.
