Hello everybody,

Frank has sent me the first set of 3.15 gears for installation & testing in my NL auto.

I hope to be able to report back to the forum once they have been installed.

cheers

Yes our early NM's had the 2.8TDI as an option which had 4.90 gears.
The petrol motor was the 3.5 V6 which had 4.30 gears.
I believe the gears will be interchangeable.
I could probably order them new from Mitsu for you but they will be big $$$

Frank.

Ηι Frank thank you for the reply.

Do you think you can find them through another source?

Also do you have any news about the 3.15 gears and their availability for NM 3.5 V6 5sp manual?.

A friend of mine has a Gen pajero 1987-88 with the 2.5 petrol engine and an alouminium transfer case. Are the 2.85 gears suitable for this car??

I'll ring around the wreckers for you and see what I can find.
The 2.85 gears will fit your friends t/case.
We are waiting on Ian's install to make sure they are ok for 94-97 Pajero.
Once these are working ok we will look at the NM/NP Pajero if you are interested we can supply a set for you to try.

The 2.85's for my friend do they need any kind of transfer modification ?

Regarding my car i'm waiting to hear from you.

Yes your friend will have to do a little grinding on the selector fork for the 2.85 gears.

The 4.90 gears for the 2.8TDI NM Pajero are : -
front = MR124860
rear = MR124858
I can get these new from Mitsu for around $800 Each (trade price) but they have to come from Japan (3 weeks).
I rang the big Mitsu wreckers around here and no-one has any only the 4.30 ratio from the 3.5 V6 (the 2.8TDI wasn't very common here).
The wreckers will probably want more $$ as they sell only the complete diff centre and don't remove the gears so you pay for the whole assembly.
Maybe you can try those part no's with your local Mitsu dealer and see if he can get them in for you on a special order.

Those same gears are available in US on 2001-2002 part-time Montero XLS. Readyly available for about US $400. They can also be found on Gen 3 SWB (3 door) 2.5L TD which is available in EU.

Alex thanks again.
Did you buy throught the net?
Do you think tey are reliable?

Fianlly i saw at their katalog that 4.9 rear is 253$ but the 4.3 is about 500$.
Do you think it's a quality relative to strength difference?
I'm concerned about reliability if i'm gonna do the change.
What do you think?

Frank your opinion??

I honestly don't think there is a real world strength issue.
Mitsu make unbelievably thick gears and they are very strong.
Sure a 4.90 may have 1 or 2 more gears on the pinion but you would need some sort of NASA tensile strength tester to see any difference.
The fact is Mitsu ring gears are rarely broken (even 5.29's).
IMHO you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

Yes I bought quite a few parts from them over time (no the ring gear). I rebuild my front end: upper and lower ball joints, tie rod ends, seals etc. Got new axle shaft & bearings from them after I broke mine few years ago. Some other misselanious staff pads etc. They shipped stuff promptly, never had a problem with them. You might want to contact them via phone or email for international shipments though (might be $$ in itself). Just in case.
Also usually it's fairly low risk if you deal with online extension of phisical shop. In aforementioned link its Mitsu/Kia dealership

You can browse another gadzillion parts suppliers here:
each one provides different level of discount on different parts.

Hello,

My Pajero 3,5V6 24V automatic (V4AW3-7) (petrol) (1995) have The 4,636 gears.
Capsmain.exe says for my Pajero MR124857= rear, and MR124859=front.
Is there anyone sure that this gears will be interchangeable to MR124858=rear and MR=124860.( 4,90 ) and do I need anything else for the exchange.
