Hilux Owners HELP!! Wires from fuel tank

Post by V6XtraHilux »

Hey guys,
Need some super fast help, although it might not really be that urgent when the answer comes thru!!

Was under the truck (V6 2003 Hilux) doing some work, and came across a wire from the middle of the fuel tank, was connected to a metal plate with tubes coming out of it. Im pretty sure they aint the fuel level sender wires, cos their further towards the back of the tank.

Anyways, these wires were cooked, all the insulation gone on one wire, the other wire semi melted. While looking at the wires, they broke in my hand!!

Anybody know what these wires are for, and it they aint plugged in to the loom, if I'll have any driving problems???

Thanks heaps.

not to sure but it sounds like the 2 hoses will be the fuel lines??? feed and return, and the wires will be the power to the fuel pump??

Thanks Slayer,
found out afterwards that I couldnt start the engine, so I figured it must be something to do with the fuel pump, although I always thought the fuel pump was near the engine, on inside the fuel tank. Ive a workshop manual for my old 89 Hilux, so pretty much the same but no electrics to the tankl except the fuel sender. Cant get a manual for this model hilux yet.

Will have to get a complete wiring look for this bit from Toyo to replace, probably cost me a small fortune!!

Thanks anyway.

Dont go to toyota for wiring, as long as a few inches of wire from the tank and a few from the plug are ok just solder in some new section.

Toyota will charge you up the bottom for something you could fix for $5.

Funny that...Toyota wanted a small fortune for the wiring!

Although to be fair, the wiring didnt come only, it has all the rest of the metal plate, tubes, and bits that hang intot he tank, so for $124 it cant be that bad!!! Luckily I didnt fork over the do, would still be sore to walk!!

Did a temporary wiring fix on the weekend to get mobile, but now, I thionk I'll spend some more time and do a proper job, probably better that a genuine Toyo (going to by Nissan next time I think!)

Thanks for the help.
