Is a compressor off an XE falcon a sump type? I can get one for $75
It has a piston type rather then a cylinder type.

Yep thats what this was.
Was very square and stands up right with the 2 fittings out the top. Also had 4 bolt holes on each side of it so that it can be mounted from either side.
So is $75 a good price for one of these?

thats the same compressor found in the clevo falcons? but mounted horizontally? could some one detail what needs to be modified to one of these to make them suitable for air comressor duty? eg, air filter on the inlet, air fitting on the exhaust, what type, and how much grease to pack in them, where to put the grease nipple, and any internal modifications needed? thanks

No mods are needed at all. Its just a filter on the intake and a fitting on the exhast. Its a good idea to run some airconditioning hose for at least 1 foot after the pump as it gets hot. Dont grease them they have an oil sump for this. Remove the top and you will see a small hole off to one side of the pistons that runs down into the sump. Block this hole off and just fill the sump with engine oil and as long as it doesnt have a leak you should never have to touch it again. Wire the clutch though a presure switch and it will work fine.

Now does anybody want to come and fit it for me as I just couldn`t be bothered
I`ll get it on friday but I bet in 3 years time its still sitting on the bench next to the cylinder type compressor I have had for about 3 years and never got around to fitting.
That site will come in handy

forgive my ignorance, but the clevo compressors are mounted horizontally, will the oil still sit in the sump. i will be using the compressor and bracket off the clevo falcon, in my f150. im pretty sure the piston goes side to side, not up and down, in this position. thanks

Was out at Pinch-a-Part in Kilsyth, Melb on Sat looking for a Sanden SD-508 and saw these Yorks on some XD-XE Ford sixes (mounted horiz).
Decided to go with a Sanden for size reasons but all Air-Con compressors are $42.50
Guts, I believe Cheezy's factory is across the road isn't it? Send one of his grunts across and save yourself $30.

While on the subject. The Sanden that I picked up had a pressure switch already connected to the outlet.
Does anyone have any idea what PSI this switch will be set at?

In case anyone is looking, here is a link to the York service manual.

But for $75 I can go about 300 metres down the road I live in and get one handed to me over the counter.
It would cost me more then $30 in fuel to get to Melbounre to pick it up.

Fair enough, I just thought if you weren't in a hurry you could pick one up next time you're down ... either way.

pressure switch will be too low if its on the suction side [big hose] or too high if its on the discharge [side smaller hose] probably 250 psi or upwards.
buy one from ARB.

Save your money and buy a pressure switch for an industrial compressor (I got mine from Tradetools in QLD). They are made to switch 240V (but work fine at 12V) and are FULLY ADJUSTABLE from about 5-350psi.

It's on the output side so will prob have to source an adjustable one.
Cheers.
