health checking an sd33

Post by gurumon »

i've got an sd33 with an honest 1/2million k's on it... currntly running this engine. it's gutless and blows a bit of smoke but i think that's par for the course with this engine :D

i've also got an sd33 in the parts car with only 240thousand k's on it - runs well, supposedly rebuilt 40thousand k's ago, but the rear main is leaking already.... dubious maintenance history on this vehicle

so anyway.... i wanna do some health checks on both engines to make a decision on whether i should swap engines or not.

compression test im fine with.... but what else should i be looking for? i really don't wanna go through the effort of swapping engines if the other engine is about shagged.
