anyone out there do vehicle aircon gassing for my GU? im in sydneys south west but would travel! thanks

I'd be interested to hear about the different gasses used and + and - on them.

I had the GQ done with some flammable gas, but it aint the best.. wanna get it changed, also the maxima needs doing.

I can do it harvey, give me a call

as for anyone, i have the gear and gas to do it so anyone who is interested, can do the old R12 systems without having to retrofit the system and can do the newer 134A systems also.

What gas do you use for R12 systems? I think my MK could do with a regas, but am not real keen to convert to 134A.

R12 is better, but its bad for the ozone layer which is why its illegall to regas an r12 system with r12, you have to 'retro-fit' new parts to suit the r134a.

Or, you could find a dodgy crunt like Screwy and get him to pump nasty, environmentally unstable r12 back into the car.

I didn't think you could get R12 anymore. AFAIK there is a blend available that can be run in R12 systems but not many people use it/will supply it. Is this what Screwy is suggesting?

I thought it was still legal to regas a R12 system with R12, but air con mechanics can't buy it anymore - the reason for this being that the gas has already been made and bottled, so it might as well get used until people's stocks have dried up.
I know less about air con legallities than the average mug, but saw this somewhere on the internet, so i assume it's the truth

Oohhhh no, when i did my aircon ticket in 2003 it was very very illegal to regas anything with R12, but of course it doesn't stop people doing it.

I just regassed with some replacement stuff in my R12 system.
Not quite as cold as the R12 gear though

so i take it R12 produces a colder air con. can this be used in a 96' 80's ?if so SCREWY whats the damage and your contact details please mate.

R12 systems in R12 work better than any other aircon system around.

R134a is not as good even in its own system.

If you have an older car with R12 system and it had been leaked out, it is correct that if should be retrofitted to the R134a system, this requires new TX valve, and compressor oil etc etc etc and big coinage.....

regassising R12 with R12 is illegal and you cant buy R12 anymore this is also correct. nor will i buy, supply or use it.

R134A i can re gas in 134a systems ( newer cars to about 1992 most have 134a )

previous year models, i can gas R12 systems with a blend refrigerant ( as i did in my GQ and a mates GQ )
this blend refrigerant is mainly only available to A/C techs not really designed for automotive use so mechanics dont buy or use it, nor does there licence cover it.

its a commercial / industrial blend refirgerant designed to replace R12 in an R12 systems with no changes other than the reciever drier. but as its an R12 system in cars, it can be liquid charged and used in this system to good effect also.

I could just about guarantee it will be R12. It changed to R134a about 94.

There should be a sticker inside the engine bay somewhere.

apparently the connectors are different as well.

refrigerant gauges wont fit on an R134a system without special fittings which i have... are farely dear at that.....

bogged, there is information on your a/c in your owners manuel and maybe on your compliance stickers or plates or on the side of the compressor which tell you which gas it is....
