Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I know of the Outlander vehicle that uses a H series wagon body on a Patrol chassis, but what about a Sedan body?

I have a VK commodore that I don't know what to do with. I was thinking about a super 6 conversion out of a VS Calais, but everyone has done that. What would make it special is that on a 4x4 chassis, but I don't know where to evrn start looking. I have done a bit of Google searching and have only come across the wagons.

Has anyone any ideas for me?

wagons are of course more popular for the extra storage space BUT I see no real reason for a sedan transplant to be hugely different. Are the mounts even any different from sedan to wagon

I reckon a hilux chassis would be pretty adequate rather than a big truck chassis, they weren't a huge car (commodores). Plus lux chassis are very cheap. This won't be a hardcore offroader I'm guessing just something different for camping and wheeling with mates.

Grab a tape and crawl under your mates 4by's It'll be interesting to see if you go ahead with it.

It is almost a certainty that this will go ahead - *almost*. Depends on how financially my Bundera buildup smacks me. I just got a price for a bush kit from ARB - $340

I will have to start searching wheel base lengths and comparing to the commy.

It should be a fun project tho.

I really would like to see others first and learn off their mistakes...

what about that yellow VK ( I think) Commodore ute in Qld on some 4b chassis.. Its been done, you aint reinventing the wheel.. there were photos round here of it.

Outlander was sorta like a 4wd HSV

You brought a H series from they dealer delivered it to outlander and they bolted on a new front sub frame, whacked a couple of dana diffs under it cant remeber what tranfercase they used

Because the sub frame bolted on like standard would not be too strong especially offraod

If your going to do it do something other than a Holden, the've been done already

Why would it not be strong?

A mate of mine had a 350 HQ Statey, we used to drive up to his property 60km out of Kempsy 40km of that on logging trails up into the mountians
Used to crack the chassis all the time where the subframe bolts on.
Another mate used to weld it back up and is a top gun welder, does stuuf for the mines like ore buckets and scoops
Outlander simply made a new box section front end and used the same mounting point. With the all extra load it would be worse

I know you should not drive a Statey like that but we did, it was fun (drifting the 350 on song ) and the chassis kept cracking

Hahahaha u have been told, know drop the dunny door idea and find that territory

at summernats, their is a vk on a 4x4 chassis. if you look for summernats pics on google, you will find pics of it. it is dark blue, with a crappy vr style bodykit (ground effects???)
from memory it is a leaf spring chassis, so i guess it would be hilux, jeep or scout?
