just took my hilux in to get road worthy and to get some things fixed the mechenic said thet the diff has been locked (welded). i know i like the idea of an instant locker but is there any thing wrong with this any thing that will braek a lot quicker or will it just do little hops around tight corners any info would be greatly appreciated.
he also found all the old slag floating around in the bottom of the housing because some one was to lazy to clean it before they put it back together.
thanx

when welding a diff you basically weld the spider gears to the side gears which means under load the spider gears cant "walk around" the side gears to release any tension therefor you are more likely to snap axles, pinions and pretty much f*** the diff. in my experience it does limit the life of your diff and when they go the go big, also if theres slag in the bottom of the diff it means slags been all through the diff so your bearings will be rooted and probly mrked all the teeth on the crownwheel and pinion so just be careful how u treat it and invest in a spare
