i want to get the mechanicals checked out on my 94 hzj75, i have a bit of and oil leak on the front of the motor and around the rear pinion. i also want to know what sort of stuff id have to do before i could turbo it? it has done about 240000kms and up until the weekend, (the oil leak) nothing has gone wrong with it.
i was wondering if there was anyone in brissie, preferably northside, that knows what they are talking about and would be willing to take the time to explain to me what was wrong and how i might be able to fix it, or depending on what it is fix it for me. i want to learn how to do all this sorta stuff my self but i have noone i know to teach me. i am not looking for freebies here i am prepared to pay with slabs/cash which ever you prefer?

What ever you do, if the harmonic balancer needs to come off, put it back on to spec, which is not easy...540nm on the nut or similar....they fall off and stuff the crank up

I'm currently rebuilding a 1hz to take a modified holset H1C turbocharger, with a hand built custom tuned length exhaust manifold.
I posed the same question quite a while ago with a few big engine building shops, and got a fairly straight forward response. The 1hz piston is not designed for forced induction, the piston ring lands are to thin and are made up of a different material to say the 1hdt. how ever as long as the fuel mixture is set up right and the exhaust temps are right and the boost is still low say 7-9psi you should be pretty safe. as for your oil leak, yeah as andrew said watch you crank shaft, you'll need to buy a quaility torque wrench if it is your balancer. the other place i may be leaking is you cam shaft seal witch is behind the black plastic timing belt cover on the front of your engine. If it is your cam shaft seal youll need to remove the whole aluminum timing cover, and if you do then replace you timing belt, their about 40 bucks from toyota but its cheap insurance.
P.S if you do turbo charge your engine i recommend you replace your main and big end bearings, it'll take you about 2 half days and you can do it in the car. all you have to do is drop the sump off, drop out one main cap and one big end cap, they will have sizes on them, get the engine shop to order you some new ones and change all of them.
plus if you can afford it buy a pyrometer kit and mount a gauge in the cab. it ll keep tabs on your exhaust temps and let you know if your going to hard or theres something wrong. I know personaly a new VDO pyro kit is over $500. cheers Busty

Busty, care to tell us who made your exhaust manifold? I'm interested in one too.
Not to steal the thread, so please PM me with the reply if you'd like.
