Difference in MQ, GQ chassis?

Hey folks,

After going to the trouble of pulling the bull bar off my Rocky, it wont quite fit on the Patrol. I considered for quite a while, about cutting and making some new mounts up, but I still think the bar is just slightly the wrong size.

So... I've been looking at perhaps buying another bar. A bloke in Sydney had a TJM MQ winch bar for $400, but that was sold unfortunately. I have noticed a GQ winch bar for $450 though. Is this likely to fit my MQ? I imagine the MK might be closer to the MQ, but is there that much difference?

Imagine this is your chassis looking from the front, give me measurements A,B & C and I'll go down and measure my truck and tell you if they are the same..
If the bar you are looking at returns at the sides, you'll have to trim them off a bit, as the MQ front axle is 100mm further forward.

MQ Dimensions

A = 58
B = 660
C = 80

got a feeling the height will be a problem......too low??
i think an MQ one fits a GQ with a 2" body lift but dont quote me on that as i'm probably wrong :oops:
worth checking though.

Cool, I'll run down the road and measure mine later.
I'll also try to get some sort of dimension to the base of the headlights or something else for a height reference...

GQ dimensions.

Hmm, not _too_ far off. Might still take some trimming of mounts.

the 660-633 difference is the one thet will give you grief.

Ah, but I was thinking - if the mounts sit on the outside of the chassis rails (like the Rocky's) then the 660-633 is lessened somewhat by the 58-66 difference. That is, the distance between the most outside edges is a bit more than 770 (MQ) vs a bit less than 770 (GQ).

Maybe I'm clutching at straws ;)

If you look at what I drew, that measurement should be the dimension BETWEEN the chassis rails, not the overall.

That's the way I understood it. The ~770 figure I came up with is from the distance between the rails + 2 rail widths. That is:

MQ
58 + 660 + 58 = 776
GQ
66 + 633 + 66 = 765

yep, thats cool..
the problem is the mounts will either be in between the rails or inside the rails, as the body mounts are in the way on the outside of the rails..

Ah, interesting!
The Rocky one bolted on the walls between the rails (and a bolt on top).
The Patrol actually has its tow hook bolted on one of those walls, and the existing bar has mounts which insert into the rails.

I'll keep looking - I'm kicking myself now for missing that $400 TJM bar!
