which glow plugs and oil filter for 2LT2/3L ??

Doing a 4Runner (surf) swap from a 22RE to a 2LT2. The runner is an 85, and the motor is a 1995 model. Getting close to having it running, and I need some part #'s. (Here in the US, there is no information available for this motor!)

I need the part #'s for 10.5V or 11V glow plugs. ND or NGK part #'s would be great, so I can cross-reference them.

I also need the part # for the oil filter. Fram or Purolator are both common brands here in the US so a part # for one of these would be great.

I appreciate any help, and I am pretty sure that when it is done, it will be the only diesel 4Runner in the US.

(With 35's and electric lockers at least! )

Ed i may be abvle to help you with the Glow plug part numbers as i need to order a set for my own vehicle. I will see if i get time tomorrow to order them and i will let you know on the part number.

Oil filter is a Z9 if that helps.

Thanks!

BTW, what is the brand name of the "Z9" oil filter ?

Here in the US, we get: Fram, Purolator, WIX, Mobil 1, Penzoil, NAPA, K&N...

do any of these brands sound familiar?

Ed

I would have thought that FRAM would have a Z9 filter available.

In Aus we prob can't help you with codes on the glow plugs, most rigs here have the super glow system that runs 7 volts in the system. Can you find out if you have the super glow system, the variable delay system , or the fixed delay system for the glow plugs. Do you have a resistor (looks like a larger glow plug) entering the bottom of the inlet manifold? do you have two relays in the engine bay for the glow plugs? How long does the light stay illuminated for when you go to key start, 5 or 20 seconds? this will help to determine what system you have. I can then check with my diesel guy and hopefully get some codes for you.

The oil filter brand (most common) is aus is Ryco, but there are cross refs to fram and purolater, can I go to the shop and find out for you at the same time.

HI area54,

Actually, this Runner used to be a gasser. I pulled out the 22RE motor, and put in the 2LT2. It does not have any of the diesel wiring at all. For the glow plugs, I was going to use a push-button style switch connected to a ford style starter relay to turn on the glow plugs. This is the reason I was asking about 10.5v, or 11v glow plugs..there will not be a resistor in the circuit.
I guess these would be the glow plugs normally found in a 24V system. The part #'s should indicate a 10.5v or 11v plug, not the 7v type normally found in 12v systems if I am not mistaken.

Thanks for your help!

Whats the difference between the 2LT and the 2LT2 ??

I think the only difference is the turbo. Thats why they have overheating probs. Motor not designed for turbo but one fitted.

bzzt.

2L-T is very similar to the 2L, but with turbo. roller rockers, cast rocker cover. 2L-TII has an entirely different head, shim and bucket direct cam, different manifolds, pressed steel rocker cover. the 2L-TII develops slightly better power and noticably better torque especially at the bottom end. they all have big end bearing issues especially when overboosted or lugged at low rpm. the early ones do have overheating problems but these can be managed by maintaining the cooling system in pristine condition and keeping a close eye on fuelling, boost and EGTs

none of the filters will fit, they are too small. The thread diameter on the filter needs to be about 22mm. Is it possible that the newer 2LT2's have a larger filter, or maybe it is a difference in the Japanese models?

Yep, those are exactly the part #'s I am looking for.
Still trying to figure out what oil filter this thing uses. It takes a larger thread diameter (around 22mm) than my old "L" and "2L" toy diesels.

Sorry i forgot about this post!

The oil filter for a 2LT is not the Z9, i just went out to the shed and had a look at one i had left over from when i owned a surf!

The filter you need is the Z334.

Thanks for the info.

I found some cross-reference #'s to the Ryco Z334, listed below.

Luberfiner PH920
Baldwin BD 7029
Fram PH 6357
Fleetguard LF 3608
Wix 51368

I found the Wix locally, $7

However, the filter is really short. Just over 3" in length. Is this normal? I would like a filter that holds more oil, like at least 1ltr.
Any ideas?

Maybe I got the wrong one..does anyone have the Toyota part # for this filter?

Thanks!

I found the part #'s for the 11v glow plugs. These should also work for the 3L motor. I am posting this for future reference, if someone down the line needs this info.

Toyota 19850-54090
ND 067100-1710
NGK Y715R
Bosch GPT 223
LDM 11152F2
Delphi HDS 245

Toyota often have more than one filter that can fit, do you have anything with a 1HZ in it? that should have the same filter

Here in the US, Toyota diesels are very, very, rare. Most people here have never seen a Toyota diesel before, and do not know that Toyota has ever made a diesel.
