Just bought a coil sprung sierra and have a few questions
Is a gear driven transfer case a bolt in swap
What is the difference between the front diff and the leaf sprung diffs can I swap centres or do I have to change the whole thing to run an airlocker
What is available as far as suspension to get decent travel
thanks

Harder to modify the coily but far from impossible - I have HEAPS of travel from my coil sprung solid rear axle in the vit. My limiting factor at the moment is handbrake cable and I have 6 inches drop-out over standard, plus additional lift, even with a mere 2" suspension lift. I've had no breakages yet on that arrangement despite the too stiff springs.
The weakspot in the coily sierras is supposed to be the linking setup itself (where the arms attatch to the front axle), not the fact that it's got coils. This appears to be where breakages occur so you'll need to modify or reinforce the area significantly before putting big loads or lifts in.
Look at the Nissan guys doing 7" spring lift with coils if you need proof that the coils themselves aren't the limiting factor.
As the guys said - try mav.

to fit the gear driven t case you need to use the mounts off the same case and change your flanges and jack shaft.the front diff is a high pinion in the coily, you connot fit leafy centers in.as for lift, its up to you how much you want to spend.bigballs has a awsome kit coming soon, give liam a call.

fittimg an air locker to the front of a coily is a bit of a problem as nothing staright from ARB will. Need to get new bits machined to make it fit. We have a guy in our club that has a coily he has a 2" body lift, 31" Simexes, a swapped in NT t/case with rock hopper a rear ARB air locker and has been waiting on ARB to machine new end caps for a front air locker for about 5 months now.

I recall that Overkill mentioned on this site that he had put an air locker into the front of a coily sierra earlier this year... it may be worth contacting Overkill Engineering (Sam).
cheers

I think the owner of the coiler is also toying with the idea of putting coil overs in the front along with longer control arms to keep the front end from lifting (tends to lift wheels when on steep inclines). This was meant to happen before adventure tour but the critter project snuck in ahead of him...
I think this mod also involves removal of much of the inner guard at the front and extending the shock towers to be as tall as possible without coming out through the bonnet. It should be sweet when it's done.
The installation of the front locker is also expected to help regain full use of the front even when one wheel is in the air.
Note: I'm not sure if this is an issue for all coiler sierras - but it is an issue for this one.
cheers

Im here
Well gear driven case is a kind of straight fit as long as you have all the earlier mountin brackets ,BUT the passenger side you should run a straight through bolt with a bush as you will tear the original in half if you r runnin crawler gears !!!! ( I found that standard body mount bush works well here .....i had to have this fix on the trail !!!........while where on the mountins make sure to further brace the original right hand mount off the chassis as well as the mount that runs front to back off this............also make sure to get the gear driven jack shaft
as for the front as mentioned overkill engineerin or suzi sport can do this fitment with an airlocker with some modifiction to the housin and centre as im aware .......there is a guy on here runnin this setup with an air locker done at sams( overkill)
As with flex the rear can work fine with some decent springs and some good shocks i ran king springs 2 1/2 " and procomp shocks with the front it sucks
i ran ultimate 2" lift shocks but lowered the top shock by about 50mm to gain extra droop with the 2 1/2 " lift .......................my old truck
http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modul ... highlight=
I also had custom bump stops to limit the shock fukin its -self
So king springs would be fine and procomp shockies are not only a good shock but also well priced .............i think bigballs currently have a lift kit of 4" or 6" in the making so maybe a pm to liam
Any other shite ya after just pm me
Cheers Dan
And moose thanx for the wrap on the mighty A1ZOOK I yeah i still have these plates if any 1 is interested
