Hi Guys,

I am looking at getting a fridge/freezer and don't want the hassle of finding level ground for an LPG one. What battery and Solar combo would you recommend for a two week camping trip?

How much of an object is money? If it is not a problem, then go for something like a 65 watt panel, and N70 deep cycle battery. You will also need a regulator. Remember, once you get over about 10 watts in panels, you pay about $10 per watt, so you are looking at least $600 for a 60-65 watt panel. Plus $70 for the reg, plus battery.

I would suggest you will need atleast a panel around 120watts+ (10amps) as if the fridge requires about 5 amps (60watts) and then you would require 5 amps+ To charge the battery.

So to cut a long story short the larger the panel the better. The more power you can produce the faster you will charge the battery.

As a minimum you need to charge the battery for 14 hours at 10% of its capacity which on a 50 amp hour battery you will need 5 amps for 14 hours to fully charge that battery (10% of 50AH = 5) the more current you can produce which will increase the charge voltage and charge the battery faster.

Cheers

Thanks guys.

After researching the prices i am going to get a 4stroke generator and battery charger to keep it going. Ends up about the same price and i can use the generator for other stuff too.
