I am hoping to get some opinions on what to do with the front end of my Gq? As there is not many people over here that play around with this sort of stuff. Any help would be great. How hard is it to drop a Gu diff into the front of a Gq? How Strong are these corefield cv's? :D

from what ive been told you can swap the GU diff in, as i want to do this to mine, but,

you either have to get a new steer arm made up, as the GU one mounts to the upper side of the pit arm, and GQ is on the lower,

OR

you put a GU power steer box on to, with the GU steer arm,

anyone correct me if im wrong.

Just leave the pitman arm alone and swap the axle straight in.
5 bolts, 2 shocks, 1 tie rod end, 1 brakeline, 12 wheelnuts, 1 tailshaft flange

While on this subject does anyone know any reason that a GU carrier wont drop into a GQ front housing.. The locker is a different part number in ARB's literature, I can't figyre out what would be different??
A mate is looking at buying two GU carriers with lockers and gears already in them for his GQ housings, but it looks like the front may not fit?

Axle length differences thru early GUs.~15mm
You will need to check engagement depths into housing if using other not directly realated parts.

So it should fit if axles long enough r/h side and "maybe" shortened l/h side .

Trial fit required

I worked out what the difference is. The GU crown wheel has a different champfer on it and the air locker is machined differently to suit.
So in this case it wont matter as the whole carrier is being swapped over as a unit.

oh yah, thanks to pete christie for the info! :)
