I was wondering has anybody but a rangie style air filter into a Disco? The reason why I'm asking this is because my disco runs on LPG, so there is no room for the disco box style airfilter and a dual battery. Previous owner put on a K&N filter and give me the original Box, but I hear K&N air not that great for when you go off road. I could possible make the disco box fit but then I would have no room to fit a second battery. So I was just wondering what are my options.

Third time, I keep forgetting submit.
You will not fit a Rangie barrel there.
In a few weeks there will new a new type of filter available called an AEM, which is polythene and needs no oil. Google it.
You do not seem yto have any oil on the cotton filter, and that = no filtration.
If you oil it you may foul the MAF.
I am wrestling with a similar problem. I have a 3.9 which I retrofitted with a 2001 Thor Manifold with a 3.9 barrel filter and snorkel , but I think it is too restrictive. have bought a Commodore box and looking at fitting, but not an easy job. I will have to relocate the inlet and exit.

The windscreen washer bottle in these things is rather large. The bottle for my old 83 rangie was much smaller. If you fitted a smaller washer bottle you may be able to move the gas converter and get everything back in.
I'm dicking around with mine at the moment to also fit a second battery... but as you know that means moving the power steer reservoir, coil etc. It's just a PITA more than anything else.

I have got the ABS setup as well in front of the washer bottle so there are VERY few options. I ended up going with the pod filter too which I do oil.
I have asked about the commodore boxes but was told that they can be restrictive. So rather than sort the air cleaner first I bit the bullet and went with the custom stainless air filter box (cause the rangie one wont fit without big dramas) and a 3 1/2 inch custom snorkel.
I can then go the pre-cleaner (if required) on the snorkel and keep my free flowing filter inside out of the water . . Why this setup?- because everyone has told me not to do everything twice - so I took their advice. Will try to get some pics on soon.

It is possible to fit it all in......
My 95 V8 disco on LPG has the original airbox, second battery, and winch control box all on that side...still with the original washer bottle. I also have the snorkle tube squeezed in there too.
My LPG converter is on the other side of the engine bay though.

The AEM filter does not appear to be as good as a decent donaldson or Mann Filter. I always love the claim "filters down to 1 micron" - but filters are not seives and they do not give the efficiency - it is probably only about 10%.

Why not fit a decent filter where you have room and modify the intake plumbing?
