Hi guys,
Just firstly i want to say nissan's RULE!
Prestently I own a 96 model jeep grand cherokee i know i know not the best thing in the world! great engine though straight six!
Well ive got this idea off buying SWB GQ and modifying it!
What i want to do is put my holden 5L engine into it. Its manual 5 speed with aftermarket EMS and MSD and was wondering could it be done. I will be doing it myself!
Are there any problems i should be aware off?
Any help would be appreciated!
thanks guys!
Ben.

id say it can be done but , id just use a nissan 5 speed gear box because it already has the transfer case on it and it can hack turning big tires
all ya need is a marks adaptor to bolt it to the back of the motor and have it engineered?????? but thats just me
i was looking at using the 6.5 chevy diesil v8 in the GQ lwb same what my old man runs in his 80 series

anything can be done at the right price.
making it legal can be difficult.

Dellow in sydney make a v8 conversion kit that for my money seems a little more complete than the Mark's one
Also better value for money as it includes a new clutch plate and other bits.
My $0.02

If Rod Hadfield can get a spitfire engine registered in a 55 chevy im sure you can organize a 308 into a patrol

Yes that is true, he also struggles with being allowed to turn it on so he can drive on to the trailer to take it places.
So no drives to the shop for milk in that chevy.
As for V8 into a GQ, many have done. So rego should not be an issue. Also if you need assistance or questions about the install. Anyone with a 308 or 350 should be able to assist. As there about the same size (may even be the same size).

have you read the limitations on what he is allowed to do with that? Its basically as turps said, approved to drve onto a trailer not much more.
Shane H off the GQ forum has just refitted a 308 (had one, spun a bearing, then went a V6 commodore as he had the donk sittin there and was short on $, then went with a injected 308 in last few weeks), but now has a Big Block 454 sittin in the driveway, he says its going in the ute, but me has a feelin that the shorty will be gettin it!

Whilst I am tempted to whack in the 96 model 454 Vortec engine into the GQ I will resist at this point. The 5.0 litre is back in and running.

How do you reckon the fuel economy would differ between the 5.0 and the straight 6 carby nissan motor???
