Long Slip Front Driveshaft Idea

i'm thinking of running a shortened rear shaft in the front. if you grind the weld transfercase end of the tailshaft end, cut however much you need out and weld the flange back on, i think that'll work. also hilux's have to longest slip out of the toyota's, so best to try and use a hilux one
Anyone done this? With the rears up front I am needing a longer driveshaft with longer slip and wondering if Stumpy's idea would work or if anyone has other ideas.. If there is no cheap way out looks like the bootyfab square driveshaft it is as I cant afford the $400 for a proper one at the moment..

With rears up front i doubt you will be able to use a hilux slip joint. It may flex ok stationary but the first time you try and climb something big and fail and have to jump on the brakes the front end usually extends right out then the springs bend a little forward and the shaft falls out. Its an inherant prob with reverse shackle set ups. I had no choice on my hilux butto go to the square shaft idea because i had around 12" of movement from the slip joint in this situation.
Or you could spend $$$ on a custom shaft only to have it destroyed the first time you come down hard on it.
I also tried using a PTO shaft from a tracktor but i think they need to be hardened before use as i twisted mine forst time out.

Had this exact prob with mine (I`m running custom springs not rears) To over come this I added another leaf to help limit the wrap the front springs would give when you hit the brakes after trying a steep up hill climb. So far it has worked and I haven`t had a problem yet. Yes it has made the up travel stiffer (slower to react) and it has also limited up travel but since I have extended bump stops anyway it doesn`t affect it at all. ATM I`m running a standard slip, yes it is close real close to being to short but I also took the time to make certain it was fully closing on compression. Once I put the longer shocks in that it needs I might need a longer slip as the springs have lots left in them when the shocks are fully out
