Outer Limits 4x4 Board

common guys let rip on opinions which tyre is the best all opinionsvalues as its my first set of tyres any help would be great
its main purpose will be mud
and will only be on the road to and from tracks

and before someone bites at me ive tried to search no good

simex.. good in mud shit on rock. tough tyre, good traction at higher speeds.

swampers good in mud, good on rock. tough tyre not as good as simex at higher speeds.

i think both tyres are great, but if your gonna be driving on solid rock id def go for the swampers.

I would say
simex ETs great in mud and clay shit on rocks
swampers good in mud good on rock
simex JT not so great in mud and shit on rocks

Ok i've had JT2's and i rate them very highly offroad especially in the soft stuff imho i reckon there as good as a pede just sizes available let them down.I did find they lacked a little sideways grip but not too bad.On road noisy as hell and terrible in the wet.

I now run LTB Swampers on the same truck and love em.Better on road in all conditions except at speed .They are softer than the simex and will wear quicker but i reckon over a variety of different terrains the swamper is a better tyre.

I reckon the JT2 is better than the ET in mud. I also think the 10.5 JT2 isn't as good as the ET on rock, but the 11.5 JT2 with the extra centre row is about the equivilent of the ET on rock, but not necessarily better. I think the JT2 is better on the highway as it has a more stable carcass.

I cant compare with the TSL's, and the 10.5 JT2 is different to the 11.5 JT2.

the JT's are crap.. cant really comment on the swampers but from wat i have seen the ET's are heaps better!!

you all suck JT's ARE DA BOMB!

personally not a big fan of the ET1 or 2, swamper's i'd prefer a bogger or an IROK.

Ive been looking at Simex as a second set of tyres to be used about 60% rock and 40% mud.
Are they really, shit on rock as stated by some people.

YES IMHO They really are SHIT on rock. no one could tell me otherwise... ask Micka.... he used (USED) to be a simex fan...
Ill never run simex for the sorta 4byin i do.

edit: this is in comparison with tyres such as TSLs, MTRs, BFG Muds, Creepy Crawlers, Baja Claws. They are all better on rock than the Simex range.

edit #2: I think Simex are great tyres, and the amount of enthusiast using them prooves that. All the above is my opinion for the terrain i like to drive.

JT2's are awesome!!! I would buy another set tomorrow if i could, how ever a bigger size would be nice!!

Grimace we've had this convo before and you have see me drivin with them off road. i very really have problem's with them on rock, rock water, slippery rock, any sort of rock!!! Mud they are good but a BOGGER would be better as would the ET's. But on Rock, gravale, lost surface's, hill's, grass, sand, side slop's, step up's, creek bed's they are very good.

they are great but i'm not the best driver either. I've been nick named BAD LINE BENNY for a good reason!!!!!!

in water the are good but not the best, but you can't ahve every thing.

put a set of crawlers or mtrs under your car and then tell me the JT are great on rock...
Or a set of maxxis buckshot mudders

So there not the greatest on rock but thats not what he will be driving he lives in Vic so most of the driving will be red clay and mud.
Either simex or swampers will up to the job..

i personally would go the swampers, swampers if you have connections can be very cost effective....... near on ridiculasly cheap for 36's for example....... you want to drive in swampy conditions and these are super..... would be easy if you were up!!!! ryano from fourby's would sort u out



even driving between tracks some rd manners are ideal and the simexs jt2 i have driven on we absolutely discraceful!!! swamper loud but atleast can get to move in a straight line.....

I had em on for 2 weeks cause I was a lazy Cookie, driving 100klms to work and back, no issues... but they were at 38psi.

I think tires are like cars/fridges/toiletpaper the lot, people have their favs.. Id like to try a set of swampers one day.. who knows if they come up at right price righ ttime.

PS. Not everyone is connected with tires, so if you go to macquarie4x4 or bigballs for example, look at the prices, they aint cheap to the average punter, but they aint tires for the average punter either.

For all out mud running it would be hard to look past the Extreme Trekker 1 or 2.

Having said that, the Jungle Trekkers hold their own quite well too.

Regardless of the tyre you choose, make sure that you have the horses under the right foot to take full advantage of self-cleaning. It the tread fills and you have not the ponies to spin them fast enough to clean them...then every tyre mentioned won't be worth a knob of goat sh1t.


If the rig is not doing many h'way miles though... Go with the BOGGERS

Yes simex are very shit on rocks.
I had 37 mtrs and 35 et2s. The ets have large hard nobs that don’t flex and just fold under and screw around when running low pressures, and just slip and spin when running slightly higher pressures. They don’t bag out, form to the surface and grip like a mtr.
With 60% rock i would go with the mtr. If the mtrs wont grip in the mud u just slip around in ruts or don’t get up a hill the first time. If u start loosing grip with the simexs on rocks, u start getting hung up on rocks and start denting body panels.

forgot to mention they had granted been sitting for quite a while and possibly abit hard so factoring in other thoughts that must have had a part efect also.......... mate may or maynot have had them balanced also...


as for connections thats why i suggested people use other's connections eg mine in ryano at marooka fourby's by mentioning o/l or me they may be pleasantlly supprised at the cost and also freighting costs..

Yep, I read that too.

But 83LUX has em on his junk pile and they do really well

Boggers just rule in mud. End of story.

But for a good all-round performer that can at least take it to the mighty bogger in mud, it would be hard to go past Extreme Trekkers in either 1 or 2.

Having said all of that...

My Creepies kicked some serious butt in mud.

And in a direct comparison with Claws, the Creepies won hands down...and didn't get staked.

The side-lugs are HUGE and they are easily as strong as the bogger. And HEAPS better on road.

They are awesome on rocks too.
