Springs and shocks - Ultimate vs TJM

I'm getting a quote on 2xsprings 4xshocks + labour tomorrow.
The bloke said he was not sure that Ultimate make springs for ferozas anymore - his catalogue just said shocks and bushes!
He also said Ultimate were a lot fimer and wouldn't be as good a ride as the TJM in a SWB vehicle.
(He also reckons 50mm was too high for a front wind up b/c of lost wheel travel, and will do about 30mm! I told him I thought it 50mm was no big deal, so we'll see...
)
Anyone got a preference or comments?...or is it no big deal ...so long as I dont get Ranchos.....???

Ultimates used to be good - haven't dealt with them in a long while though.
It really doesn't make that much difference - the TJM is still an OK kit.
If you want them to install then just go the 4 shocks & Rear Leaves - let them set it up as they normally do - when you get it home you can wind the T-Bars up as much as you like really easily. Most shops only go 30mm or so as they are pretty conservative. You can then also do any other mods later yourself as you go -
How mechanically minded are you ?? If you are feeling adventurous & want the maximum lift & travel straight up then It is really easy to do yourself & save some $$$ -
Here is how I would go if you don't mind spinning a spanner or two....
Buy the TJM Rear Leaf Springs - if they have a rubber bush option then go for that - if not the Urethanes will have to do. No shocks at this stage. By the Front Shocks only at this stage ( front shock length doesn't change with lift. )
When you get the Leaves home - modify them as per my previous email ( ie: open clamps, remove overload leaf etc ) Make / buy a set of extended shackles ( 50mm longer eye-eye is ideal ) Buy a set of genuine factory rubber bushes for top shackle mount. Buy / make a set of Pin-Eye Shock Convertors for bottom shock mount.
When you are ready to install - do rear end first. Unload the rear leaf springs by jacking up the rear with wheels still on so the leaf springs have no weight on them - ie: the wheels are just on the ground still.
Unbolt shocks & U-Bolts, unbolt leaf springs, unbolt shackles. Insert new Shackle bushes, bolt up new leaf springs, bolt up U-bolts ( make sure you do them evenly all round with same amount of thread left on each end of U-Bolt )
Now fit new front shocks, remove front sway bar & wind up Torsion Bars - do each side a bit at a time - wind up until either 50mm higher or 10mm from upper bumpstops.
Now you need to measure for rear shock length - there is a good chance they will be longer than the ones you will get in the TJM Feroza kit die to extended shackles & spring mods. Also it is a good idea to convert the bottom shock mount to an eye mount - this gives you more shock choices & gets rid of the stud mount which hangs down to low & always gets bent / snapped when 4wding. Either twist up the rear in the driveway or drive slowly somewhere local & twist it up to max travel - get under & measure the max / min shock lengths between mounts. Then go to TJM ( or Rancho ) & order the right length rear shock with stud top, eye bottom mount & bolt them up.
Go out & enjoy your new lifted Feroza !!

Anyone in Vic reccomend some other more serious 4wd modifiers ??

) but I'm going to start doing work on it from now on.
Like you said, if the bloke will only do 30mm I can do the other 20mm later on. I'll probabaly need trim the bump stops a bit more though right?
Yeah, I'm around Traralgon/Morwell way.
I'm going to the Aust 4wd specialists - the gear to goanawhere place. They are extremely thorough and v. helpful, but a bit conservative when I start talking about any more serious, less mainstream mods..
Yeah, maybe someone can give me a heads up on a place for significant mods near here?
