The end is nigh for the Patrol!!

Take it or leave it - this is second hand net info. Certainly hope it is wrong! sounds horrible! End of an era! Think my td4.2 GQ just went up in value ;)

The new patrol is set to be here within the year. Will have IFS and will run on an Alpha platform which is essentially a navara and pathfinder mix with an extra 150mm of steel welded into the cross members. Rumored to have 4.5l six, constant 4wd and smaller running gear to compensate for the loss of power through running the front diff.

cheers fnq

PS. all you future small diesel engine GU owners, keep your bloody mitts of temporarily homeless TD4.2 engines, should be a law against it.

u have to be sh*tt*ng me the world will be officially pussy whipped if its true.the one last true solid axle ,capable and tough 4by might follow the other diff blowing un articulating street driven fairy fourbys is a crime.i think for this to be resolved we need to bring back the cane at schools, death penalties and any thing else that might beat some sense into people that think we only need glorified commordore wagons for 4 wheel drives.

It aint news, this is last years rumour.. but the LATEST rumour no EO is a 3.5 donk... replacing the 4.2 AND the 3.0..

Dudes in our club are going to work on a bulk deal on current patrol 4.2's before they all sell out if this model. That will see most to the grave.

simple question - how many TD42TDs do you hear of blowing up over the last 8 years?

Just post up a #, not need for banter...

Just my personal prefferance, like going with technology.
IMO,4.2 is very reliable, but lacks in many other areas like fuel economy, power considaring size of the engine, noise levels etc.

This is my opinion.Lot of others will be very happy with economy, power etc

One good thing may come of it all (but only if the engine is good for 600k without one electrical failure ever! and VERY infrequent mechanicl probs), with an Australian patrol virtually identical to the US equivalent, parts and aftermarket goodies could become very much cheaper over here.
If it looks anything like the new rodeo I will chuck my Wheaties.

Cheers fnq

The TD42 is a good old donk but grossly outdated. The way I see it is Nissan have no choice but to upgrade it to the move with the times not to mention satisfy emission standards.

Let's hope the replacement is more powerful and just as tough and reliable.

I think gone are the days of the "over engineered" 4wds.
And that makes me sad.

There's a reason most of us bought Patrols.

Strength.
Live Axles
Ability to Modify
Good Value

Unlike the hungy.

It'll be a sad day  when we lose live axles and the ability to modify, not to mention all the technology that goes with these new fangled diesels - 3.0 crap-box. :bad-words:

Looks like i'll have to keep the 'ole girl forever

I'm sure no one will be disappointed with 3.0 technology in a larger capacity motor. The old 4.2 is archaic and Nissan sales are suffering as a result of it. If Nissan can make the 3.0 perform as well as it does, then a new age larger capacity engine can only be better. I have had several 4.2s and now have a 3.0. It has over 300,000kms on it and has never missed a beat. I don't miss the 4.2s at all.

Bring on some more new technology as soon as possible I say and those people that are still living in the 1980's and are crying over the death of the 4.2 need to get their heads out of their a%$#s and move on.

If Nissan do this I might have to defect to a 130 series Cruiser with a 4.4L V8 diesel...

if they do what? IFS? Then the cruiser is yours.

People who just believe and accept what they are given by manufacturers should get their heads out of the sand and think for themselves.

Dont have a cow man - I was just reacting to a new Patrol with IFS, no diesel, no transfer, weak chassis...I am sure Nissan are not that dumb, they already have a Pathfinder, Murano, X-Trail, why would they make a GU piss-weak?

The biggest problem Patrol has is its not available in USA...perhaps Australia is not a big enough market to continue with it.

I think that in near future, all 4x4's will be all independant, not just IFS.
We may not like it,but with time it will get better and better.

This is one case where I hope that history will repeat itself.

The liveaxle will be reinvented! Better than ever!

But I somehow doubt this. :?
