i got mine from repco.. about the same price i think $40-$50. its worth getting the spout that latches on to the top too, cos it makes refiling heaps easier. 20L, breather hole for easy filling, no-spill latch with pin.

thanks for that, i have seen the ex army ones at disposals, weren't sure if they were all that good. i have enough crap ones at home that i dont want to add to them. just want one that works without smelling out the car and leaking

Have you tried replacing the rubber seals. They do tend to perish and go hard.

Unless your laying them down there shouldn't be problem with a measured 20ltr of fuel, your leaving some air at the top?
When ever I've been temped to add those extra couple of litres it's usually just leaked out.
Regards Charlie

Mine always blow up like a balloon when it get's hot. If you had them in a rack and were travelling over dirt roads the rubbing of the expanded tank on the metal might hole it.

Hi all...Damo,nothings perfect.Id be more concerned about the steel ones rubbing and getting a hole.Steel on steel can potentially make a spark.Plus steel on steel wears very quick. My plastic gerry cans when expanded jam so tight on my holders that they dont move a millimeter.Mine have been to capeyork probably 7 times now,not to mention numerous other trips, never had one wear yet. When i take mine out,i just throw them on the ground or in my boat. They are tuff as hell.
I seen some on special at supercheap auto for $25 bucks a few month ago.
The steel ones are primative and probmatic.

Go for a plastic jerry, I threw a full one off the side of my ute the other day

at about 40km/hr going a round a corner - bounced and slid. Picked it up expectingit to be split, it had some bitumen rash and that was it. Don't think a steel jerry would have handled it quite as well

Yeah good points. I've never had any problems with mine, it's just something that bothered me.
Guess I should just STFU and get over it

Go plastic. Mine blow up big in the sun then suck in at night. I've had five for three years now and going strong. Mine get used twice a week both for diesel and petrol
