Hi All
I am new to these forums and 4WD in general. i was hoping I could ask a question?
I have recently purched a 79 BJ 40 which has 60 series(2H) engine and running gear. I want to install power steering. I have a 60 series pw steering kit(complete) at home that i got froma a mate.

Would i be better to try and source a 40 series power steering box and mod the rest of the 60 series pw steering or do a complete conversion and install the 60 series box etc?

I have read some of the forums about steering conversions etc. I am on a very tight budget so you help would be appreciated!

Search and read as much as you can.

I think 60 series setup would be the best, as you get rid of that little idler box, so less linkages means less play means less total slack in steering means good. Also i think you have to get the 55 series steering shaft, but someone else who has done this can give you more detail.

I've got 40 series power steer box on mine, then 60 series pump to suit the 2H - works fine except when you're sitting absolutely still it won't turn the wheels - once you move a fraction they will turn easy as.

ive have helped do this conversion before to a mates hj47 troopy and i now own a hj47 ute that will be getting a similar treatment in the next few weeks. This time i have found a few different parts that may help the conversion. I'm looking at running an oil cooler instead of cooling lines and ive also found a direct replacement right hand side engine mount of an early 60 series that i can use to mount the pump i think. From memory all up last time the conversion cost around $800 to $900 this is the link to the buildup. http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modul ... highlight=
