TJ Questions

Post by Beefcake »

G'day Jeepers,

I'm about to start the hunt for another TJ and have a few questions.

First of all, does anyone know the max towing capacity of a TJ? I have a ski boat that weighs in at around 1300kg (I'm sure the trailer funded BHP's super fund). I had a TJ before and towed this with it, but not very far and it handled it no worries, the trailer has hydraulic disc brakes. After doing this I read the towbar which said 750kg, but I assume that meant unbraked (hopefully).

Secondly, what's the opinion on suspension brands. I'm looking at min. 4" suspension lift and may go a small bodylift aswell. I'd prefer to go with a complete kit than go through buying springs, then matching shocks etc. What's the opinions on the Rubicon kits vs Skyjacker. And is there others to consider? Also what sort of money do they range from (can't find suspension prices (checked out 4wd1, Wooders, Jbitz etc).

Is MOAB sye and drive shaft an ok choice? 4wd1 seems to be doing a good deal on these at the moment?

I had a 97 Renegade before with 3" sus + 2" body lift, wish I'd never sold it, can't seem to find another with the same extras for the same money...always the way.

Sorry for all the questions, but I want to get it right...

Cheers

oh, and what's the difference between a long arm and short arm suspension? does it just affect the amount of travel?

www.rubiconexpress.com.au will give you an idea of prices for RE in Australia

The official importer is Suburban 4x4

1300KG is well above the pittiful towing limit for a TJ If you want to tow a better choice is the cherokee
