Outer Limits 4x4 Board

This might seem like a strange question but I have an XF falcon paddock basher which needs more traction at the rear end. It currently has 14" rims. Do any 5 stud 15" 4WD rims have the same pattern? I dont want to over capitalise on this car, (it already owes me $360) so was thinking of buying a couple of 2nd hand rims already fitted with tyres from the wreckers if something will fit. I dont mind cutting the guards or bodywork to make something fit.

Duno mate but the 5 stud options i know of are either rims that fit F100, zook, and rangie or new landcruiser 5 studders. No idea wether they fit or not just that they are 5 stud fourby rims that i can think of.

I did think of this or maybe making a set of duals but I the outside wheel would block the wheelnuts and theres no way it would be round?

F100 might be worth a try being a Ford

I think Jeep has the same stud pattern as a falcon ? maybe even Series 2 disco ?

It's a paddock basher, big deal! out of round wheels would only add to the excitment

Unfortunatly for ya none of these or lada will fit not sure on jeep though.

TJ jeep is the only 4x4 with the 5 on 4.5" pattern, Same as Falcon

Early Jeep, suzuki, Lada etc etc in 5 on 5.5"

Range rover etc is 5 on 6.5"

2wd hilux is same as falcon 5 stud i think

Whaddaya mean 4X4 rims ? I assume you mean extra wide ?

Later Falcons have 15" dia and AFAIK only the thread on the studs changed since about the XT ?, and possibly the centre hole dia (AU ?). As they are a 6" rim a 225/75-15 tyre should fit

Any welding shop can cut and widen the rims for ya as long as you don't try to rego the car. This is what we used to do on veedubs for beach work.

BUT the XJ, KJ and ZJ also have 5 on 4.5" pattern

Cheap option: Just drill a heap of holes in the tyre, put long bolts through the holes from the inside with big washers, then put a strip of thick strip of rubber over the bolt heads and then tube the tyre. Better than any 4x4 tyre.

Doesnt have to be extra wide, was just hoping to go down to the 4x4 wreckers and pickup a couple of cheap 4x4 rims with tyres, anything would be better than 14" road tyres. But I might look at grabbing a couple of 15" falcon rims and fitting some 2nd hand suzuki tyres. Putting them on the front as well would give me a bit more clearnance under the sump as well....

The good old ugly 12 slotters with factory surface rust...15-8inch wide from the wreckers....should cost about $20-$30 each.

Actually it sounded like a silly idea at first but the more I think about it......

You can buy 14" offroad tyres (for the early subie) and some pretty solid lt type tyres that would be good offroad too....

I have never actually tried it, but from what I have heard it is grippy as. Can go flat out and just turn.

Yep when i was in the tyre buisness we used to import 14inch muds/snow tyres from germany,very cheap and very strong tyres.Very popular with the subie drivers.

The only name i can remember is blizzard....size's were somthing like 185/75/14 up to 225/70/14.

Hmmm........Ice Racing !

I paid $20 for set of 4 standard TJ rims....they aren't so desirable since most want wider tyres reuiring 15x8 not 15x7 rims

Friend of mine has Falcon one tonner rims on his mid 90's 2wd Hilux so I would say you are right.

Toyota Dyna 5 stud rims also fit Falcons.

A mate has a Toyota Hilux 2wd ute as an island basher. He needed some more ground clearance. We got a hold of a set of late model 16 inch Falcon rims, and mounted a set of 16 inch 4wd tyres. Do this with either 16's or 15's. Go to Bob Jane TMart, or another decent sized tyre place who sells mags. Chances are they have a huge pile of rims out the back that will be going for scrap, where the owners have changed to mags.

Wheels for falcons are available in 15" and 16" sizes from wreckers.
All you need are a pair of 15x7 rims, and fit some 235/75x15s and you won't even need to do any panel work. This is what I had on my XD, and what my mate now has on his XH ute.
He also has 16x6.5 inch AU Falcon rims on the front fitted with 205x16 tyres.

As stated the only common 5*4.5 is newer jeep mid90’s on. all the other 5 stud 4x4 are to wide in the stud holes.
If you can’t get cheap jeep rims/tyres get some 15 ford rims and some 2nd had 4x4 tyers and your set.

The other option is to re-grove your 14 tyres.

My old XC falcon ran 15x8 falcon rims with 31x10.5 tyres. was hell fun in the mud and went lots of places you just shouldn't take a 2 wheel drive car it also had spring over rear. XD front springs(cos there longer than standard XC) and spaced spring mounts in front





this is not how an XC GXL should be treated

as stated jeep would be your only go for sure
i would just go grab tyres with chunky tread and whack them on your rims.

Jeep TJ and Xj and KJ will fit, as will 2wd HilUx.
You can often pick up stock TJ rims here or on other forums.
