Shock choice

Hey guys,

not doing much 4x4ing lately unfortunately (life and work has been too busy) since our big trip so haven't been on the forum much.

Anyways, just replaced the shocks again. the last set were OME and were very soft, car weighs about 2.8T and has polyairs. they did alright on the corrugations without too much fade, but were shocking handling wise. and had already failed (9 months and 25000km)

I was going to throw some ranchos on, but 2 places said no as the 35mm bore was no where big enough for a heavily laden Paj. So i went for the 41mm bore foam cell rockcrawlers instead.

Firmer ride and much safer onroad now. yet to try them offroad, will see how they go next month on a 2 week trip somewhere. but feel good so far as it was pretty bad before.

Just wanted to pass it on.

Rob.

When mine's at around 2.4T my OMEs feel a bit light, so I can imagine they weren't pleasant on yours.

I'm interested to hear how the go offroad.

Cheers,

Scott

Empty, perhaps.

When I got back from Cape York we went to a local transfer station, and the display read 2.38T. Without all the grog, water or fuel we left with.

Normally, the suspension is pretty good. Fully loaded, it's not quite so flash. And I've got all the OME "heavy" options for the LWB.

I want something different before I hit the Simpson.

Cheers,

Scott

Yeah it's amazing how it adds up.

weighed ours before a 2 month trek, broke the 3tonne mark! still managed nearly 150km/h too :D (couldn't help the novelty on a quiet territory highway.) great little trucks.
