well i grabbed some rear GQ shorty patrol springs to throw in the back of the paj to see how we go off Dan, A1MAV, and also got a good look at the Vitara project. Unfortunately he doesnt wanna do another SAS on the paj...
had a few people tell me no theyre too high and i know people have tried, but you know how it goes, never believe it till youve seen it. so theyre in and im gonna keep em
600mm from hub centre to the rubber guard.

Were these old springs that had sagged a bit or second hand that were still good condition?
Looks good at the moment, BUT! Hows the flex?

say what?
but yeh, i dunno flexed it up out the front, doesnt seem to go as good as before? is that what u meant by "BUT! hows the flex", but biggets problem with the flex is probably the progressive rate coils which have a heap of close coils at the bottom....i dunno, doesnt take that long to change, if i dont like ill change back

hey man, just keep in mind the break lines and hand break cable. any more flex and you'll rip em out

checked them all, and alls good with lines and cables.i think theyll come out the GQ springs, first day back at uni and he got some decent driving on the road with the springs and way too many vibes goin on, found a transfer case mount that needs replacing, as in theres no rubber in it anymore
but yeh too many virations and for no extra flex, 2" lift pedders coils i rekon...unless someone wants to recommend something else

The mount on the side?
It will be gone as soon as you replace it. They don't last at all.

yeh that mount, theres nothing left of it? so should i replace it or not doug? the tranny moves around a bit but also i think the output bearing from tranny is gone cos i have some movement in the tailshaft and causes some vibes throughout when in low revs or the wrong gear...
but the coils are out and he looks a bit more like this once more, and as i said i think ill go the pedders springs for the rear when i figure out whats goin on with my job...

You can replace it, I allways do. But it only seems to last me a month or two before it is "shot" again.

Cool I did the same to my nh lwb yep 600mm is about right and no vibs got to get some longer shockies to increase flex and longer brake line ....dont know about the hand brake cable though

yeh grumpy i took them out, it probably works a treat on the LWB, but on the shorty i had some funny vibrations goin on, and i doubt the unis would last long, so i took them out this morning, back to being good, no vibes, its got more flex, and the shicks were too short with the GQ springs in there, so its time for some 2" lifted springs,
should i go for 2" lift for a LWB or SWB??? anyone??? and yes thank you captain obvious, i do have a shorty but would they be different? im guessing so, ill get the specs on the difference, im thinking 2" for the SWB...cos yeh the GQ's were too high, the rears now at 550mm, thats with only the springs in.

I went standard height/max weight LWB springs from OME. Gave me a lift of 3" over the original (sagged) springs, which is about 2" above standard (as best I can tell...)
Goes from rear slightly higher when unloaded to rear slightly lower when fully loaded.
Partly loaded, on max articulation, the tyre rubs on the inside of the wheel well.
Looking at where it rubs, I don't thing springs are gonna fix it - need different tyres or different offset rims (or both?
)

so how do the OME go scott? how much were they? the pedders are gonna be 150 and ill install them myself, got it down to 30 mins now to change a set of springs by the time all the tools come out to the time they go back. My tyres dont rub anywhere as it is, but i think after the springs i may need longer shocks, cos with the GQ rears there was more left, but the shocks were definitely at their peak, lifting a wheel. ill see how we go, thanks for the info

On day/weekend trips I'm happy with them. It was only fully loaded for a big trip that I found the shocks to be a little weak - the rear floated a little too much on the highway.
ARB dude in Cairns wanted to put heavier springs in.
Don't remember the prices for individual items. With club discount, rear coils and 4 shocks were just under $700 (excl fitting.)
Are you sure it's shocks holding you up, and not the control arms? Try removing one of the rear bolts, and see if that gives any more travel.
Cheers,
Scott

The output bearing in your trans is probably ok now to. When you are that high the shaft comes out of the T/C to far and flops arround.
You can have a spacer made up to bolt between shaft and diff which pushes the shaft back in.

yeh nah j top, the output bearing of the transfer was shot before i lifted it, so when the GQ couls went in it didnt help much either, but yeh i still to get that sorted, eventually...

I've seen a lot of people complain about vibration after lifting the vehicle but mine has never had the problem. After 2 years the back sits at 600mm from the centre of hub to the bottom of the plastic guard.
And yes I agree with the transfer case bush - it's absolutely Farken useless - your lucky to get a week of "onroading" before they are screwd. There is an old thread floating around somewhere that talks about replacing them with another type of bush - if memory serves me correctly me thinks if was Frank who found a better solution (what a surprise).
