Post by Bad JuJu »

OK, I have seen these referenced a few times inc Mud4b's S3 in the 4sale section.
Who makes the series 4??
Who sells the series 4 ??
Details of gearing etc would be cool...

I spoke to Noel at TJM in Emu Plains today. He has been running the series 4 for a little while now. Apparently they are made a little beefier then the series 3 and there is some grinding needed to fit in the case. He said with the 31's on his zook he sits on 2300rpm? at 100km/h :? so it's sounds like high gearing reduction is very minimal. Low range he said he's usually in 2nd or 3rd gear on climbs as you'ld expect.

im sure they were 25% reduction in high
and not much different in low.

the gears look a fair bit chunkier than the s3.

definently need to grind the case..

as for above... i remember when everyone used to rave about the s3, not put shit on them because of 1 bad batch to wich bbm did give many sets of replacement s4 gears at their cost...

I saw RB's on friday night last week and i compared them to his old ones didn't look much different to me.Didn't check the ratio but they didn't appear to be any beefier.

The only more beef I noticed was the teeth seem to be cut a little bit deeper. Maybe 1mm, 2 at the most.

although the opld s3 geas didnt mesh with the s4 gears the teeth are a little fatter on the low reange gears

grinding of the case was extremly minimal. where 1 bolt is it get fatter on the inside of the case took maby 1 mm of alimunium off there and also bout 1 mm off on the flat part of the case. i wouldnt think it would affect the strength at all. i couldnt really notice any difference in low range. and i sit on bout 4 grand of revs at 100 kays

has anyone broken a low range gear yet,
all the broken gears i have seen have been idlers on the input shaft side due to overhardening from what ive been told.

when mine went all gears sustained teeth loss

the cluster gear copped it the worst
