Are JT's mainly for rocks or mud, or just good on both?

Considering they were basically designed for the rainforest challenge (hence Jungle Trekker) they're mainly for mud.
At least with the big lugs they'll catch on rock. Dunno if people have horror stories of ripped lugs or not.....

Again? I've never asked this Q. before.
Besides, I'm a bit bored.

i've heard the compound is too hard for rock, and that there are many other choices above them...
in mud can't fault them apart from the fact they only go to a 34

They're brilliant in mud. Rough rock is good also. The compound is a bit hard for smooth rock. Broken lugs isn't really an issue with the JT2.
They are a tyre that makes traction using it tread pattern, not its rubber compound, but for traction on smooth stuff, they're no worse than a muddie. The 11.5" wide ones are also a lot better in these situations than the 10.5's

Your not looking in the right places then. There's plenty of rock to get your rocks off here...
