Mitsubishi Colt starter for the I-Zook

The starter in the I-Zook, ´86 413w, gave up on me, and a reserve was nowhere to be found within the time limits I had to fix it.
I did some scrounging among the shelves at my used-parts dealer and found a starter from a Mitsubishi Colt ´89 that looked, and was, exactly the same, apart from the "nose". I swithed them in about fifteen minutes and there I was, with a "new" starter.
The parts man told me that the Colt and the Lancer are basically the same cars, just different bodies, so starters from that generation of both can donate sterters for the SJ.
I don´t know if the 410 has the same starter as the 413; somebody please add info on that.

swift also looks the same. diff nose.

The nose just holds teh bearing, so if the nose doesnt hit anything when installing, and the gear comes out and fully engages the flywheel, than its all sweet.
Hmm colts are a dime a dozen, thats really good info for when my starter blows.

I laid the same info out on a swedish Zook forum and one of the guys there said that there were two kinds of starters in the SJ´s; the other one probably being the same as the Swift starter, which as far as I could see when compairing in the shelves at the wreckers, had a narrower body.
Then again maybe the Swift also used two different kinds of starters.

The swift one that i have around has different mount and needs the nose+case of the sj onto the swift internals.

If the case or body of the starter is of a different diameter I doubt that it can be used. The rotor and body of an electric motor must match exactly!

The way I hear it, Mitsubishi makes most electrical components for japanese cars, so its no great wonder that some swapping can be done, but there are limits.
