I am looking at buying 4.875 Diff gears from G&J in Mornington but need to know if i have the big or small rear diff. I was quoted about $575 an end. Sound fair or does someone know any other sources.?
Also is big the H260
and small the H233B.?
Thanks
Grant.

Thanks. I just changed my rear diff oil, and guess what i found. Metal bits broken up. I think my wheel bearings are shot. It was getting dark outside, so i will have a better look tomorrow through the old oil.

Big diff is flat on bottom and has sorta straight angled up sides to the axle tube, sorta know what I mean?

Well, what does that tell you?
H260 only came in leaf sprung utes and I think some 3.0td auto wagons and 4.8 petrols. If you've got a coil cab, you've got a H233.

Nup...
H260 also in Manual 4.5 Petrols 98 on & Manual 3.0 TD 2000 - 2003 (at least)....
But Nissan did stuff aroiund & put H233 under some 3.0TD manuals & H260 under some 3.0 TD autos.
But that is a H233 diff in the pics.....
Can also be piced in a stock GU (ie no housing swaps) by the compliance plates, the code is different in the second letter. Forget now, and cant be bothered going outside to look under the bonnet of the POS.

Fair enough, I wasn't sure about which wagons had what but the utes are as I stated.

Diff is fine. I mistook the grey sealant used to seal the housing as metal filings, when covered in black oil. I am going to get the 4.875 gears from G&J, and put in soon i think.

Wheel bearings wont show in Diff oil.
The diff oil is nearly always contaminated with meatal color, big chips?? sounds like breaking up teeth?

I think 585 dollars is way too much money to spend on a shitty car.

I understand H233B 3rd member bolts to the housing with 11 bolts and H260 uses 12 bolts.
