Side exit exhaust

Anybody know if it is legal to have a side exit exhaust in NSW.
I'm thinking of having it exit between the door and rear wheelarch (2door)
I'm going to bob-tail the car soon and want a really clean looking rear end.
I've seen defenders in the UK with ss pipes poking through the body and they look really cool!
Thanks
Dave

from memory... side pipes are only allowed past the cab...
so basicaly u cant have side pipes on a wagon or sedan unless its an ute and you can then run side pipes past the cab and be legal.

In victoria, if the vehicle has 2 doors, i believe you are allowed to exit the pipes behind the door...not sure whether NSW would be the dame

Has to be behind the rearmost opening (tailgate in rangie).
Also I think left side exit is out now (guess they are thinking of pedestrians).

So that make my standard exaust pretty damn illegal!

ADR changes are usually not backdated. So your rangie will still be legal if it conformed to ADRs when it was released.
Something I have always wondered about is the military workshop LRs and other military trucks that have the muffler and exhaust exit at the front (under the bumper). These things never conformed to ADRs, yet I have seen plenty on the roads with the exhaust as they were made.

every commodore up to the current one has a left side exhaust.
I think the rules are about 20cm past the rearmost opening window.

I thought any exaust exiting ahead of the rear wheels was a no-no...
If your engine craps out, it will oil the rear tyre/s then your farrkt
And if you have a wagon/panel of sorts, it has to come out the side so
if you leave the rear window open it wont suck in fumes

I think every one that I have see are at the rear, not the side.

Ditto. My father has owned 3, and all had a rear exhaust exit.
Most SI and SII Land Rovers have the factory exhaust exit out the side, immediately behind the right rear wheel.
