Must be able to because Pete Kinkade's jeep was at Tuff Truck and to enter Tuff Truck you must have a fully registered vehicle with engineer certificates.

is there such a thing as an engineer in QLD that can do things like that.
and what ever did happen to that truck?

His own words
It was last years technology and it was pulled apart and parted out to make way for a full space frame vehicle

The one big problem i see with the constant rebuilds of Pete's TJ is that he doesn't get enough seat time to work the car and how it drives. I thought the setup for Tuff Truck was great it just needed a bit more of a feel for how it performed.

how do you "FEEL" it performed?

What I mean is when you drive your car alot you get to understand what it will do in a situation, you can sense it's balance points etc. When it is new to you you don't know the capabilities and limitations so you you tend to put it in situations you wouldn't if you had more seat time. It looked like on occasions that Pete was unfamiliar with the car and it acted in a way he wasn't expecting like Mini Wiraba. It was obvious that the car/driver were capable as they walked thru the all terrain and from reports did just the same on the night challenge yet Mini Wiraba made the car look less capable. (I think that explains what I mean
)

i filmed the whole event, Petes tj had to be amongst the most capable rigs in the line up. when he mauled the night event i thought to myself, this dude can drive, finally someones going to give the nsw guys a run for their money. it was good competition spirit.
i think it sucks that he tore the truck down, but so did nearly every other contender who entered the comp.
you want to win tuff truck, you have to keep up,
if the event goes ahead early next year i reckon we're going to see the craziest line up yet. with big representation from qld and vic not just nsw.

yes it was registered but theres a diff between registered and road driven,
you try driving round with portals ? its going to be one slow arse rig, not to mention byt putting on portals your going to need to re design your suspension in a big way, your adding some big levers to your diffs and going to get some issues with axles wrap and what not, and the price tag is huge just for the portal hubs.

Spaz
Range rovers start out with a 3.54:1 ratio or something like that, so they are quite high geared to start with, going to portals and like 35s on a rangie would be probably not that far removed from stock. Also the range rover has coil springs, this in itself limits axle wrap or removes it entirely (as compared with leaf springs)
so yeah......

I cant believe half those trucks were regestered
I thought buggy leaf systems were not regesterable aswell as hydrolic suspension systems???
This has just made the Tuff truck event about 98% more exciting to me. To think how capable a road registerable 4wd offroad machine can be............... I wish I was a engineer
.
Thats it I am calling Griffith Uni tomorow to start my new career path

Yeah I wish i could afford the risk off breakage. At my young stupid age I never know whats best for me.
I would like to be in the tuff truck comp or any comp some day, but atm I am just a shitkicker that enjoys 4wding with family and mates.

There is also a huge diff between what you can get away with in NSW and what you can get away with in QLD. We just dont have anywhere to drive any more
As for the coilovers, They are not
THAT different to the struts you find in the front of a commodore so I cant see why not.
(Watch me get shot down in flames

How much more ADVANCED could you get!
I agree with Grimbo, seat time and driving ability is very important!!! Maybe even more important than having the MOST ADVANCED RIG!!!
Heres one for ya!
TTC 02, The Rig that came 5th = 100k +
The silver bullet (10k max) would have come 6th (take out the GAY events that require no driving or skill, SHOW AND SHINE, WHEEL TRAVEL, ENGINEERING and THE MUD RUN
)
What does that tell you!
Or in another way!
Put a 30y.o female Asian in the Skaifes HRT Commodore and put Skaife in her Tarago, Skaife would still win!

I agree with Grimbo Pete's TJ would still be comp winning truck today pete just needed to spend more time driving and getting used to the truck.
The trucks are getting wilder but remember a lot of people are building no rego vehicles which makes them not eligible for TTC.

Seems no one wants to actually respond to killalux's question
Mate search the memberlist for a guy named Auto_Eng and shoot him a PM. He cruises the Rover section a bit and seems to know his shite when it comes to DOT rules in the sunny state. Hope that helps ya

Mine although it looks a bit funky, will actually be registered, and I will go to the shops and pick up milk and eggs, and come back and have johnny law asking me questions!

i see your point
but dont forget that glenn finished with only 105 penalty points
pete finished with 377
you cant argue that if glenn drove denny's hilux (which came 16th) the silver bullet would have won ttc.
i agree that seat time, vehicle familiarity etc etc has a lot to do with it, but 105 penalty points for an entire weekend of carnage says something about glenns truck.
all in all, we will have to wait and see how far 'advanced' the front runner trucks will be, if and when ttc03/04 ever happens.
