50-60K import motor with install will be about $1900 - that's what a few others have paid and also a quote I have from the Gold Coast....

BTW, that is outright - you keep your old donk - strip for spares!

You should be able to get a motor for around $800-900, it's an easy DIY job, or find a mechanic to do it. Should only cost around $600 for a mechanic to do a swap.

Bear in mind that they are talking $1900 for a risky 2nd hand motor installed.

I paid $2400 for a ground up rebuild with new pistons with a 12 month warranty. I would never even consider buying a 2nd hand import motor after all the trouble I had with them in my 180sx, its like buying a $2000 lottery ticket, you just wouldnt do it !

If you plan on keeping the car for a while definately consider paying a bit extra for a rebuild.

Cheers

You should be able to pick up an import motor for around $600 bare (ie. no EFI computer/ gearbox). I would agree for $1900 it's a bit steep and risky.

If you do go import, make sure a new timing belt is fitted.

Damn - I can only find them for $1100 min - I found one guy who does them for $850 but has no stock and none coming.....

:(

Anyone know where I can get one? In Brisbane but I think it can be shipped for about $150 anywhere from Melbourne to here.....

Otherwise I might just have to get the $1100 one.....
