MTRs Fuel Economy

Guys,
Recently I changed by worn out BFG AT's (probably 20% tread) to new MTRs, same size 285/75R16. I have noticed that my fuel economy has gone from 11.7L/100kms with the BFGs to 13.8L/100kms with the MTRs. The other factor could be that I have probably been running the Air Con about 80-90% of the time lately as well.
Do you think that the change to a more aggressive tread, and increased use of the AC can have an effect of around 2L per 100kms
Bye the way, its a TD42 (non turbo), fuel figures are combined Highway/City.
Cheers for any help

aggressive tires do cause worse fuel use, but so will air cond
whats the actual measurement of both tires? not just 265, actual measurement

Cant find that info on the website, may have to measure them

The biggest difference in fuel economy from a tyre swap would, imho, be from the mass of the tyre. Heavy tyres are lots of work to turn, especially when starting and stopping.

I am getting 12.5L/100km same engine, if the motor is running the aircon is on!
Have yet to test it in cooler weather. I suspect mid to low 11L/100k without aircon.
As far as bolt on the outside accessorys there is none on my car yet.
Sounds resonable to me at least half could be the aircon.
cheers fnq

When I put new tyres on my patrol, it started using about 10% more fuel - or so I thought, until I measured the circumference of the old and new tyres, and found almost 10% difference

with the deeper tread as well as the side wall tread your new tyres will be pushing a lot more air. a new radial claw will loose around 40hp on the dyno compared to an all terain.

MTR have silica compound in them.. has some car like properties (wet weather handling/braking) inlcuding less rolling resistance = greater fuel economy
