Quick Winch Help
okay guys mounted up a winch i got the other day and all was good, until i plugged the remote in and it doesnt work, pulled the socket out for the remote and the white wire for the remote socket has broken off from the socket.
how do i get the little socket out that the pin goes into for the remote? do the little sockets come out the back towards where the wires come into, or out the front where the remote plugs into??? and how do i get them out???i need to rewire it so it works.... anyone???

okay guys,
heres some piccies,
the white wire has broken off and i cant get the female out of the plug to rewire it. does anyone know how or which way they come out? i cant buy just the plug from WARN, only the control box as a new unit, and it cost $468 other wise can i:
- buy a new 3 pin plug, cut off the hand controller male, cut off the control box female and wire up a new male/female???
- run a toggle switch inside the car??? on/off/on style toggle switch, is 20amps enough for this switch? its similar to the toggle switch in the hand controller and its tiny wiring anyways cant run that much amps...
will these ideas work?
surely someone in the world has had similiar problems, iv searched everywehre and tried everyway to get the female out, and two auto leccys have had their go at it also
any help would be awesome

just run a switch inside the cab 3 core flex will suffice
pics etc here:

on your plug strip some of the sheath push the bare wire into the hole and drop some solder down or araldite the insulation end in with the bare wire push into its hole
that'll work for now.
this place can post you one

thanks lockee, still but $45, thats a bit steep i rekon, its just a plug at the end of the day, but because it is sold under the WARN brand they charge like its an inconvenience for them to bother
anyways lockee,
im on the Central Coast of NSW< say....Gosford is the closest kinda big city, i spoke to Dean and Michael out at Recreational Car Accessories cos they deal with our club and they rekon they cant get just the plug, could be time to go to someone else....

Re: winch
Tell them to ring Ateco in Sydney and they can buy the plug with that part number.klrevo wrote:thanks lockee, still but $45, thats a bit steep i rekon, its just a plug at the end of the day, but because it is sold under the WARN brand they charge like its an inconvenience for them to bother

Steep? Go and buy a spare part for your truck.

thanks heaps lockee, yeh i went back to them and abused them, they rang ateco and they could get the part, $45 like u said, spoke to one of the boys there, sortyed it out, went to Kmart, bought a trailer plug female and male, swapped them over, happy as larry, everythings working, little bit of fiddling round to get the plug to fit in the control box, but all is good heres the photos
ill post up one of the control box tomoz when i get a chance, but yeh everythings sweet, everything works, and i rekon its a more stable plug, had to cut the plug down, redrill where the grub screrw holds the plug in the holder, and file out the hole in the top of the control box, but hey for $0 im not complaining, shitloads better than both the $468 for a new control box, and $45 for a new plug i got quoted, some might prefer to just replace it with the proper plug, but this was sitting round doing nuthing, also going to wire it into the power window swtich that doesnt control any power windows
thanks to those who have helped

that plug on the remote control end is a 2 piece arrangement, where u have the plug, and then the two outer casings screw together to form the plug as a whole, you can see that in the photo
so here some piccies from the control box end, im very happy with the way this turned out actually, and my winch works again, and it cost me nuthing

must say i agree with lockee on this one, if for what ever reason you say drop your controller in a bottomless bog hole, or drive over it etc... & your cars is stuck like all shit, your going to be stuffing around cos no one else contollers would fit
$45 is expensive but ya can't make one for that

ok, so i wired up the in cab switch aswell today, took the wires out the back oft he plug to test if the switch would work, (power window switch), and it did, so i wired it into the back of the plug on the control box side. All worked fine and dandy, then went to use the hand controller which worked perfectly before i wired the switch into it, and the hand controller doesnt work?> whats the go there? i thought if i just wired the switch into the back of the plug on the control box, i would also be able to run the hand controller, is there another way i need to wire this up???? cos all i get now is the clicking of the solenoids when i use the hand controller but the switch still works....

I've noticed that Jaycar are selling these connectors which are being used on a lot of winches these days. www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=PP1090 & www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=PS1092 These are the same as whats on my T-Max winch only a different colour. I'm now using these instead of 12 volt ciggarette plugs because they are lockable and don't fall out.
Cheers Mick.
