Hi all, This carn't be right i think i have a problem with the rocker cover breathers.
It is creating a very strong suction ( very hard to pull oil filler cap off) and at idle it is making a loud wistle.
I have only changed the inlet manifold and carby and all is hooked up as it was before.
any help would be great
Thanks Rick.

rocker cover breathers

Unless you are running a WW carby then the pipe after the butterfly is for the breather.
I had heaps of problems with my breather system a while back. It was sucking way too much and causing it to run like it had a vacuum leak. The problem ended up being the flame trap, it was not working anymore. The flame trap (it does have another name just cant remember it at the moment) actually reduces the amount of vacuum and so with a new one everything was sweet.

huh?
If there is vacuum in the engine, it must be coming from the inlet manifold. cannot come from anywhere else.
Rick, take the pipe from the crankcase vents to the carby off and see if you still have the problem. I suggest that you route the crankcase vents to the air cleaner. I assume you have changed the strombergs to a holley or something.

yep 4.4 with a holley. i was talking to a engine repairer tonight and he said that where i am getting the vacuum from must have been where the vacuum is the strongest eg brake booster port.
so tomorrow will check the flame trap and try a replumb job, if that doesn't fix i will go to the air box then.
And here i thought the water pump was on its way out.
Thanks for all the help (it's been to long of the road---about 5 weeks for a two day job )
