Splicing Winch Rope

I've got 2 winch ropes - One snapped at about 1/3rd due to winch jam.
Second rope took a few rock hits and looks worse for ear again really only in the first 1/3rd.....
So I have 2 hooks, and 2 x 2/3rd good condition rope.....

So rather than reaching into my pocket to buy more rope with extra Hooks etc - I'm looking to cut the damaged sections off and refit the hook to the remaining 2/3rds of each rope.....

Anyone see any probs with this? Anyone got any tips/links etc for splicing when fitting the eyelets etc???

reverse it on the drum so the shite is rarely exposed and the fresh is ready for more abuse ;)
