Another Lift Question.........

G'day all........
I'm looking at gettin a rangie and was wondering what are the pros and cons of a 4" lift :twisted:

I've had a look through most of the posts, and it seems 2-3" is the most that people want to use because of the $cost$. I will be using the rangie as a trail rig but want to keep it all legal and rego'ed.

And should i go a 2 or 4 door rangie ( I want to do a ute conversion anyway, so # of seats isn't really a problem)

I am not saying anything about the suspension side of things as I am looking to acheive 5" and I am sure you will be informed of lots of $$ spending things from the guys/girls in this post they are very helpful but also alittle bit restrictive :lol: .

But as for the 2dr 4dr thing if your looking to do a ute conversion I think it would be silly to get a 4dr.

Those utes getting round look pretty good, and theres not to many of them, I would like to see a tray back style rr ute sometime. I think that would look pretty damn cool ! ! !

4door is better

it is stronger and easier to do the ute conversion on a 4 door

Is it really easier to do a ute convo on a four door???? I never would have thought that???

Actually I supposed cause you can just take it from the beginning of the rear doors.

Howeva you go about it pics would be good.

Going with a 4 inch lift is ok provided you understand the requirements to make it drivable.

Any lift is possible on a RR just a mater of doing things properly and not half assed.

Any spingg lift over 2.5 inches will see all factory set castor gone, this is correctable in a few ways.

Drive line issues become problematic with lifts over 3 inches, once again easy to fix.

All links and rdaias arm bushes will be under load at all times after market links are available.

Ball joint at A frame will require relocating or replacing with a different set up.

Rear ball joint systems.


Also available a 360 degree swivel can be used to replace the ball joint or fitted into rear links.

Decide what you want to achieve.

The gains are well worth it.

35 inch rubber will fit on a rangie with 50mm body lift, 50 mm spring lift and guard trimming.

AND most importantly the doors are way way lighter on a four door.

4" lift is easy and cheap if you combine body and spring rather than trying to get it all in spring lift. I have 5" Total with no correction in castor or DS CV's or bent arms... and its vaugely drivable ;)

That silver one is awesome. It was in the NZ winch challenge, but theres not a whole lot of footage of it on the video. Shame, coz when mine gets the chop its going to look pretty similar.

The idea of having the spare under the tray and having a winch on the back is pretty cool, and its got a great departure angle.

So why is every one so scared about buying a castor correction kit?.... If thats all it involves..

See thats my problem i've just done a fair bit to my old FJ45. I did a spring over (involved twisting diff knuckels) and removed some leaves (Now Ramping 1110 @20*Ramp) and i want to get a rangie to do something similar.

Can anyones rangie ramp 1000? if so what setup do you run....

Castor correction bushes just off set hole in bush, Can limit articulation.

you want the bush concentric so that it all works nicly.

yeah, i havn't had anything to do with rangies so i'm still coming to terms with them and the whole coils/ thing :oops:

Yeah its a nice truck alright - only problem was that the 3-link front was not really the best set up for winch challenge style comps... Its way too flexy. As a result Mick placed well down the order and didn't get much screen time...
