Increased consumption !!!

Hi guys,
i am having an issue with the consumption of my Feroza 1,6i of the 1990.
I am currently at 7 Km/liter, but , from the last time i checked (about 5 weeks ago) was 10-11 Km /liter !!!
I have not changed anything from that time and the car is , or at least seem to be OK. (No power loss, minimum regular, no different way how i drive...
My car has 225/70/15 tyre, K&N airfilter, 4in1 Genie extractor on.
Any suggestion will be areally ppreciated.

Oxygen sensor could be on the way out. Search the FAQ for steps on how to test it.

If i think of anything else ill let ya know, little bit hungover atm :D

Achille is it EFI or carby? Like Rob said check the Oxy sensor if it's EFI.

Check the ignition timing too.

hi, Check your coolant temp. sensor. because if it is faulty it will give the computer a faulse reading (that is that the engine is cold) and it will keep pumping petrol in all the time (more than usual). Feroza's run rich when they are cold and then when the coolant temp sensor sends a signal to the ECU that the car is warmed up it changes the fuel delivery. The coolant temp sensor is located under the dizzy, the one that has two wires on it. not the one with 1 wire on it, that controls the temp gauge. See how you go with that.

Alandra, is the sensor screwed directly into the block, or is it screwed into one of the coolant outlets? I've looked for mine a couple of times with little success.

I know the most visible coolant "sensor" in that area is actually a thermo switch to cut the aircon out if the coolant temp gets too high.

yes it is screwed into the block. it is located under the distrubitor, it is the sensor that has two wires on it.

Hallo and thanks for the suggestions:
i checked the O2 using all Murcod suggetions: the O2 sensor is OK
I was looking for the Temp. sensor (below the distributor) w/o success.
I was completely layed down ON the engine , but was not able to reach it.
Do you have a picture how is made ?
How do you reach it ? Did you have removed the distributor ?
Do you have the code for this sensor (my car engine is injection type of early 1990).
Sorry for the lot of question

how exactly do you check the temp sensor to see if it is working correctly? Have same problem with mine, just replaced O2 and it helped a little but it gas mileage is crap (around 18 miles per gallon.) Should n't it get around 30 mpg? Would a missing catalytic converter cause any part of this? Cause my friend is missing his.

to check the coolant temp sensor you can do it 2 ways, the hard way and the harder way. 1. locate temp sensor under dizzy, easiest way from under the car. unplug the sensor and check its continuity. i'm not too sure what that resistance reading should read i cant remember. 2. Locate ECU, passanger side kick panel. obtain wiring diagram, check colour of wires on coolant temp sensor, find these wires at the ecu, check the resistance reading that way. (when doing this way make sure the coolant temp sensor is pluged in). there should be 2 resistance readings, one for engine cold conditions, and the other for engine hot conditions. hope this helps. A shameless advert! Seriously thanks for your input Jason. :)

The Service Manual and HD-E Engine Manual have all the good stuff on what wires at the ECU end you'll need to check (and it's not that hard to access -> front passenger side kick panel just under the glovebox.) The manuals also give all the resistance / voltage specs.

The water proof EFI connectors in the engine bay can be a right PITA to remove on the Feroza engines, so the ECU could be a good option.

Finally i had time to check also the Temp Sensor as suggested by Murcod...
Everithing OK....
So i am at the starting point... :cry:
What else i can check ?
Somebody told me to cleam all the injection system using a Fuel injector cleaner into the tank.
What do you thick ?

You'd be better off removing the injectors and getting them cleaned properly and flow tested.
