My car wont take off in Drive "D"

Only just recently (after having a full auto gear box rebuild) my GQ doesnt want to take off in drive. I can take off in 1st or 2nd and then finally drive but if i try to take off in Drive it just revs up. Also, when i come to a stop, the gearbox jumps out of drive and straight into neutral.

My gearbox person said that it was a start/stop switch or something??? Any ideas or approximate cost for a second hand/new one?

Cheers in advance,

ben

Are you sure it's actually in drive, as opposed to looking like it's in drive but having the T-bar out of adjustment so it's not actually operating the transmission properly?

Can't think of any start/stop switch that would do anything remotely like that.

Im definately in drive when i put it in "d". The automatic transmission guy seems to think is a switch located on the side of the actual gearbox itself, not the gear stick

Unless it was a cashy rebuild. Probably just easier to take it back and get the Auto guy to return it when its fixed.

Sounds like shifter not aligned p;roperly with me. If you try wriggling it a little but NOT actually shifting into another gear you may feel it move and click into place so that it works.

Either way if it's that or something else and it's been rebuilt it sounds like a job for the guy who rebuilt it to fix.

used to build autos but have knot had one of thoses ones apart though but when in 1st or 2nd auto uses bands to lock up planty gears . when in drive it just relays on a one way clutch would say one clutch is gone or in back wards

just my 2 cents worth, but have you checked the trans fluid level? I had a similar experience in a XF Falcon - turned out to be low fluid. Unfortunately, I found out too late and cooked the transmision.

Like others have said, if it's only recently been rebuilt, take it back.

Have checked the fluid levels and they are all fine and i have made all adjustments to make sure that it is actually slotting into the right gear. Off to the transmission mechanic who did the initial job on Saturday morning.

Just in time for my new 35's....

After a brief inspection/test drive, my automatic transmission guy has confirmed that my automatic gearbox is "dicked" again and that the clutch has gone. He suggests that its because of the 285/75/16 MT117 Sport Mudders that i run as a daily driver and the stress they have put on the auto box. I reckon this is just a crap excuse to get out of doing a warranty job. What are your thoughts?

I vote crap excuse. He didn't do the job properly the first time. 285/75R16 is not a particularly big tyre for a vehicle the size of a GQ.

What you've got here is a baaaaad mechanic who doesn't know his stuff and is jumping around from excuse to excuse ("bad switch"? big tyres?) to cover the fact that when he opens a transmission up he doesn't really know what to do with the insides.
