Outer Limits 4x4 Board

G'day guys, I'm going on a 9 day trip into the Snowy River National Park and surrounding area and am having trouble deciding which tyres to use. I have a choice of 35" BFG Muds (Old design and probably about 50-60% tread) or 36" Simex Centipedes (Nearly brand new).

Going to be doing touring along a few base camps and some harder day drives (Not all the cars will be going on the hard drives). Of the other cars going there is a range of tyres from a 100 series on standard Dunlops to a couple of other Guys running Simexs (JT2s and Pedes).

This is the first trip to this area for me and this vehicle and I'm unsure about which tyre to use.

G'day MK, I would go the pedes if your going to do some of the harder tracks, traction is what you want up there and the pedes will grip a lot better than old style BFG's with 50% tread.
When are you up there? where you heading for? I am going up next week.

We are heading off next Friday the 10th and back the following Sunday the 19th. I'll throw the Pedes on this weekend and see if I'll be able to put up with them.

Go the pedes. I'v been there with BFG's with about 50% tread. Their ok for the easier tracks but interesting on the harder ones.

Go the BFG's and have fun with them. Perhaps a good trip to finish them off, instead of having 2 sets floating around. At least you will have fun trying to get up those tracks.

Trash the old set first I say, my 2 cents worth.

I would have thought that if you took the pedes, by the time you got back you would have two sets of tyres at 50%.

Its gonna be pretty dry up there and i don't think the BFG's will struggle. I don't think I could cope with listening to Simex FM for whole journey there and back either.

BFG's as it is more a touring area and they will handle the terrain OK. Then you can save your Simex's for the mud and slop associated with the hard day or weekend trips you prolly bought them for

Man most of the people I've met who live in those areas are running muddies and they don't have too many dramas, like MYTTUFF said its a touring area, Ireckon you'd be fine with the muddies. And it would be pretty dry around there at the moment.
